    Description

    Organizational Background:

Women’s Refugee Commission is a non-profit organization committed to protecting the rights and safety of displaced and migrant women and girls in the US and around the world. Since our founding 35 years ago, WRC has worked to protect the rights of displaced women, children, and youth and to transform the humanitarian system so that it is more responsive to their needs. We have a proven track record of rigorous monitoring, advocacy, and public education that advances women’s rights and curbs harmful policies and practices. To strengthen our fundraising efforts, deepen donor relationships, and expand our base of institutional support, we are seeking a qualified professional to join our team in a full-time temporary role focused on institutional giving and partnerships.

The Senior Officer of Institutional Giving & Partnerships will be instrumental in advancing WRC’s mission by securing the resources needed to sustain and grow our impact. Working closely with the organization’s leadership, development, and program teams, this role will focus on expanding institutional support through strategic donor engagement and partnership development.

    Scope of Work:

This position will drive revenue growth by identifying and pursuing new funding opportunities while strengthening relationships with current institutional donors. It requires a strong understanding of donor priorities and the ability to communicate WRC’s mission and impact effectively. Reporting to the Acting Vice President of Programs & Partnerships, the Senior Officer will collaborate across teams, including Individual Giving, Grants, Programs, and Communications, to align fundraising strategies and achieve organizational goals.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Donor Engagement and Stewardship

    • Design and implement a comprehensive, high-level donor engagement strategy that strengthens donor satisfaction, deepens loyalty, and secures long-term support. This includes monitoring donor behavior and engagement trends, analyzing giving patterns, and using data-driven insights to shape tailored strategies that anticipate donor interests and align with broader philanthropic outlooks.
    • Cultivate and steward relationships through personalized outreach, virtual and in-person meetings, tailored impact reports, and meaningful recognition.
    • Collaborate with internal teams to create compelling donor-facing content across multiple channels.

    Communications and Relationship Building

    • Work closely with the communications team to ensure that donor-facing materials reflect WRC’s mission and impact.
    • Partner with program teams to source stories and data that connect donors to the work they support.
    • Manage donor recognition programs to ensure meaningful acknowledgment.

    Internal Collaboration and Leadership

    • Coordinate with the executive teams to ensure senior staff are prepared for donor interactions.
    • Track and analyze donor engagement metrics to inform strategy.

    Fundraising and Proposal Support

    • Research and cultivate new funding opportunities across foundations, government agencies, corporations, and multilateral donors.
    • Identify and build relationships with key network and partner agencies to uncover collaborative fundraising opportunities and align strategies. This includes mapping potential allies across sectors, fostering strategic partnerships, and leveraging shared goals to expand funding prospects and amplify impact.
    • Monitor humanitarian and research funding trends and priorities of government agencies, such as ensuring that relevant opportunities are tracked and communicated across teams. Liaise with relevant WRC units and leadership to coordinate approaches and ensure alignment with institutional and regional strategies.
    • Support donor introduction meetings, prepare briefings, and coordinate follow-ups.
    • Assist in writing concept notes, proposals, and general operating grant requests in collaboration with program and finance teams.
    • Coordinate the proposal submission process, including formatting, copyediting, and compliance with funder requirements.

    Data and Knowledge Management

    • Maintain accurate donor and prospect information in Donor Perfect and SharePoint.
    • Enhance existing systems by strengthening and regularly monitoring dashboards and reports to effectively track engagement, revenue, and donor deliverables.
    • Support the transition from Raiser’s Edge to Donor Perfect and ensure data integrity.
    • Coordinate with legal and finance teams to maintain organized and audit-ready records.

    Qualifications:

    Required

    • At least 10 years of progressive experience in donor engagement, stewardship, and/or development.
    • Proven track record of building strong donor relationships and increasing support.
    • Experience with CRM platforms (Donor Perfect or similar) and strong data analysis.
    • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

    Preferred

    • Experience working with government donors, family foundations, and corporate donors.
    • Familiarity with migration, gender equality and humanitarian response, and CSR.
    • Proficiency with Donor Perfect and a working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge.

    Desired Attributes:

    • Passion for WRC’s mission and values.
    • Strong relationship builder and empathetic listener.
    • Strategic thinker with attention to detail.
    • Collaborative and entrepreneurial spirit.
    • Curious, proactive, and adaptable.
