    Development Assistant Job Description

    Organization Overview:

    UnLocal, Inc. is a community-centered non-profit organization dedicated to providing direct immigration legal representation and community education to undocumented immigrant communities in New York City.

    Summary:

    UnLocal, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated part-time Development Assistant to join our team. This entry-level position will play a critical role in supporting the growth and sustainability of our organization. The Development Assistant will assist with various fundraising and donor engagement activities, contributing to UnLocal’s mission of serving immigrant communities in and around New York City. This role reports directly to the Director of Development.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist in the in-person execution of fall and winter fundraising campaigns, including campaign planning, event coordination, marketing and promotion, and data management to track campaign success.
    • Identify recurring and major donors through the analysis of our databases and master revenue sheets while working closely with the Development team.
    • Support the Development staff in identifying recurring donors who are not subscribed to our monthly newsletter by cross-checking the subscription database.
    • Help prepare “Thank You” communication packages for select and major donors, showcasing our appreciation in a hands-on manner.
    • Contribute to online fundraising efforts, including supporting crowdfunding and peer-to-peer campaigns, while assisting with updates to campaign pages on platforms such as Givebutter.
    • Collaborate with the Communications team to create engaging social media posts for fundraising campaigns, utilizing tools like Canva.
    • Work with the team to develop event timelines, budgets, and logistical plans, actively participating in all stages of event preparation and execution.
    • Communicate with vendors, community partners, and prospective sponsors and donors in person to secure services and partnerships for events.
    • Assist in the design and distribution of promotional materials, including flyers and invitations, working directly with team members to ensure effective outreach.
    • Organize and execute in-person events, including setup, registration, and post-event follow-up, fostering a strong team presence at events.
    • Conduct post-event evaluations by gathering feedback to enhance future events, engaging directly with attendees and donors.

    Qualifications:

    • Strong interest in nonprofit development and fundraising, especially in support of immigrant communities.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment.
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and basic design tools like Canva is a plus.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and experience with databases is preferred.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with a strong emphasis on in-person collaboration.

    Salary & Benefits:

    • 20- 25$ an hour (Depending on Experience)
    • 10 days of Sick leave
    • $20 Commuter benefit reimbursement

    This position primarily involves sedentary work, including extended periods of sitting, use of a computer, and communication via phone and video conferencing. Travel will be required for funder outreach or partner meetings. Position frequently moves items of up to 10 pounds across the office or into off-site locations.
