    Description

    Family Support Navigator

    The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC) seeks a motivated, devoted professional with strong organizational skills to serve as a Family Support Navigator. The position is full-time flexible schedule to include one weekend day and one evening (12-8pm) to accommodate families schedules. The position will involve a hybrid of in-person and remote work. The Family Support Navigator will play an important role in providing supportive services to children and parents participating in our Trauma Recovery and Therapeutic Supervised Visitation Program and other families as referred by coalition partners.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Engage with families with a decolonized approach to assess strengths and needs to tailor support services to each unique family
    • Partner with families to identify goals, navigate systems, and access culturally appropriate resources (e.g., medical, legal, housing, education, immigration, spiritual/community supports)
    • Provide families warm referrals and accompany clients to appointments when needed
    • Advocate within systems while challenging inequities, affirming family strengths, and fostering trust and autonomy.
    • Collaborate with clinical and interdisciplinary teams to provide trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and healing-centered services.
    • Engage in regular reflective practice, professional development, and team learning on racial equity, decolonization, and healing justice.
    • Stay current on resources, emerging needs, and best practices

    Ideal Characteristics:

    • Culturally Responsive & Anti-Oppressive Mindset: Deep understanding of systemic inequities and a commitment to decolonization, and healing justice. Ability to engage families with humility, respect, and cultural attunement.
    • Strong Advocacy & Navigation Skills: Confident navigating complex systems (e.g., housing, legal, immigration, education). Able to advocate for families while affirming their strengths and autonomy.
    • Collaborative & Interdisciplinary: Comfortable working across clinical and support teams. Values reflective practice and continuous learning.
    • Organized & Resourceful: Keeps up to date with community resources and best practices. Manages multiple cases with attention to detail and follow-through.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Commitment to social justice and strong communication skills required.
    • A minimum of two years of experience working in child welfare, and an understanding of the complexities of human trafficking, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, mental health and substance abuse issues preferred.
