    Description

    Apex’s College and Career Success Department works to prepare our youth to be college and career ready where they can pursue a world of possibility. We actively work to address educational and professional barriers faced by immigrant, Asian American youth from low income backgrounds. Our programs emphasize exploration and curiosity, and aims to expand youths’ scope when thinking about their personal, academic, and post-secondary pathways. These programs are run by staff with support from volunteers.

    The High School Opportunities Manager is responsible for ensuring collaboration between NYC high schools and high schools serving community organizations through strategic partnerships. They will be responsible for communicating Apex opportunities (e.g. internship opportunities, career events, and scholarships). The High School Opportunities Manager will report to the Associate Director of College and Career Success. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, project management abilities, can collaborate with various Apex teams, develop strong external partnerships with external organizations, and be a team player.

    Responsibilities

    • College and Career Program Community Engagement (40%)
      • Manage and oversee all aspects of the expansion of CCS’s College Access opportunities for high school students not currently enrolled in an Apex program
      • Create and execute outreach strategies and timelines, and collaborate with relevant Apex departments to meet high school student recruitment goals for CCS and Apex programs, opportunities, and events
      • Lead the planning and execution of an Apex-sponsored College Fair that will be open to Apex students and community partners
      • Plan and facilitate college knowledge and financial aid workshops (in-person and virtual) for external partners
    • Apex College and Career Opportunities Management (30%)
      • Plan, manage logistics, and implement college access events and opportunities open to all Apex enrolled students, including overnight and day college trips
      • Manage the planning and communication of all high school opportunities for Apex for Youth high school students across programs
      • Host informational sessions and student application support for external opportunities as needed
      • Collaborate with the AD of CCS to execute the Apex Senior Scholarships, managing all student-facing application details, tracking/communication, and submissions
    • Collaboration (20%)
      • Support with College Access Program Saturday workshops, trainings, and events
      • Facilitate College Access workshops and trainings for Mentoring Programs for students and volunteers, and provide additional student support
      • Collaborate with members of the College and Career Success team to implement teamwide events and opportunities
      • Support with Apex-wide events as needed
    • Data Management (5%)
      • Track high school student engagement and suggest improvements, and implement program changes
      • Collect and evaluate data from community workshops and events to improve overall student and partner relationships
    • Other duties as required (5%)

    Qualifications

    • BA or BS preferred (in lieu of a 4-year degree, GED and 3 years of experience in a social service or community organization required)
    • Experience working with youth required; experience with high school youth preferred
    • 2+ years of experience in college access or community organization setting preferred
    • Strong oral and written communication skills, with ability to create genuine relationships
    • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail
    • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
    • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned responsibilities
    • Positive and bright disposition with “can do” attitude
    • Proactive nature and self-starter, ability to problem-solve autonomously
    • Candidates are expected to be able to commute to the Apex office in Manhattan at least 2 days a week
    • Ability to work Saturdays in Manhattan as needed, and take Sunday and Monday as the weekend
    • Ability to travel for occasional overnight trips with youth, as well as for occasional out of town overnight organizational retreats
