We provide food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services to reduce the burden of poverty. We seek justice through community organizing and public advocacy.     Position Profile:

    The Limited-Term Food Program Assistant is responsible for supporting the distribution of food during a limited term due to a variety of reasons. This role is essential to the success of the program and ensuring that our neighbors have access to high-quality food even when circumstances shift. The Limited Term role is a flexible role whose responsibilities could change each day based on the needs of the program, but will include moving inventory, breaking down boxes, and trash removal, as well as working with community members to choose their groceries, and supporting volunteers. It will include both behind-the-scenes work and working directly with people in a fast-paced environment. This position will be full-time, 8a-4p Monday - Friday. Must be bilingual in Mandarin or Spanish.

    Essential Responsibilities:

    • Distribute food in an efficient and equitable manner
    • Assist in all aspects of food distribution and be available to work in any area as needed, including but not limited to:
    • Working with and for community members as they visit our centers
    • Walking with community members through the pantry, including assisting with bagging their groceries
    • Supporting the mobile delivery team by traveling to a location for distribution
    • Re-bagging bulk produce
    • Breaking down trash and cardboard
    • Keeping accurate electronic records of distribution
    • Passing food to delivery drivers once orders are completed
    • Working alongside volunteers and donors
    • Moving inventory, which would require lifting up to 50lbs
    • Ensure quality food distribution

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Gain a basic understanding of food programs at Bread for the City;
    • Participate in staff meetings and trainings as required;
    • Stay up to date with organizational internal communication
    • Maintain good hygiene due to the nature of food distribution;
    • Perform other duties as assigned, understanding the flexible nature of the program and organization.

    Requirements:

    • Bilingual in Mandarin or Spanish required, with ability to translate conversations, documents and communicate clearly with community members who speak Spanish or Mandarin as their first language
    • Ability to work with limited supervision;
    • Willingness to adapt to a fast-paced work environment that centers community experience;
    • Ability to lift up to 25lbs regularly; 50lbs occasionally
    • Ability to stand for up to 8 hours;
    • Ability to work with a diverse staff and community;
    • Familiarity with non-profit work, public benefit programs, and knowledge of hunger and poverty issues helpful;
    • Commitment to working with and for people experiencing food insecurity;
    • Ability to work professionally and collaboratively, alongside volunteers and staff;
    • Must stay up to date on vaccination requirements;
    • Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar... ) and/or ability to learn new technology systems;
    • Willingness to adapt to an unusual work environment;
    • Ability to work with volunteers in a professional and collaborative manner;
    • Willingness to learn and carry out Bread for the City’s commitments to social justice and racial equity.
