    Summary

    We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-aligned Senior Accountant to join our growing in-house accounting team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for assisting the Controller in overseeing and managing the organization’s accounting and financial functions. This includes assisting in maintaining all financial reports, budgets, audits. accounts payable, payroll, month-end closing, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations etc. This role will also directly support the Controller and accounting team during the transition from the current outsource accounting services to full in-house staff accounting team.

    You will work closely with the Controller and collaborate with functional departments to not only educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore opportunities to improve financial reporting to support our program operations.     Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform routine monthly and year-end close general ledger accounting duties, including preparation of journal entries, review and research accounting transactions, and perform analysis and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
    • May assist in supervising staff in other areas of accounting, such as accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, cash management as needed to support staff.
    • Assist in reviewing grant and contract tracking, including reporting on restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure compliance.
    • Support the transition from outsourced accounting functions to in-house
    • Assist with creating financial reports and developing processes in Sage Intacct
    • Assist in developing financial and accounting policies and procedures to maintain strong internal controls and financial management
    • Identify and recommend best accounting practices with staff and departments
    • Verify and post all transactions that are properly documented in accordance with accounting standards and government regulations.
    • Review monthly financial reports that compare budgeted costs to actual costs for variances.
    • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness and conformance to reporting and procedural standards.
    • Assist in reviewing all revenues reported in Salesforce (restricted and unrestricted) to ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP
    • Assist in the annual audit processing of year-end closing and reports/schedules for auditors and the tax form 990 and 1099 Annual filings.
    • Assist with monthly or annual statutory reporting from the State or Federal agencies (W-2’s, 1099’s, DE 542 etc.)
    • Assist in preparing monthly and quarterly financial statements for Finance Committee and the Board
    • Support the preparation and monitoring of the organization’s annual budget, including departmental and project-specific budgets.
    • Reconcile monthly bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts to ensure timely closing of the general ledger at month end.
    • Review AP invoice and/or AR payments processed in SAGE to ensure proper coding of general ledger account
    • Support tracking and reporting for government and foundation grants, including restricted and unrestricted funding
    • Assist in preparation of various financial reports for internal stakeholders and funders
    • Responsible for ensuring accurate and timely fiscal reporting in compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state and programs regulations.
    • Perform other tasks as assigned.

    Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required)
    • Four years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience with nonprofit accounting (contract/grant accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, audit, etc.)

    Technical and Performance Skills

    • Proficiency with the ERP accounting software SAGE Intacct highly required
    • Proficiency in Excel
    • Proficiency with Salesforce highly recommended
    • Proficiency in Google Suite
    • Ability to work with minimal supervision and to exercise sound independent judgment while meeting deadlines.
    • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls in nonprofit accounting
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
    • Clear, collaborative communicator with a solutions-oriented mindset
    • Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Knowledge of accounting principles in Government Accounting with audit and reporting requirements for Federal, State, and local governments grants

    Physical and Mental Demands

    • Ability to work in a high-energy, fast-paced environment typical of a youth center.
    • Ability to sit for extended periods and use hands/vision for computer work.
    • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
