State Level Research Director

POSITION: State Level Research Director

LOCATION: Washington, DC

AB PAC, a progressive research and communications organization dedicated to holding Republicans accountable for their words and actions, is hiring a State Level Research Director for the 2026 election cycle to oversee targeted earned media campaigns for its Washington, DC office. This position will be a member of the organization’s senior staff, and will be responsible for interfacing with partners and allies, managing a dedicated research staff, and coordinating with other members of the leadership team.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Responsible for overseeing the production of research products on a wide array of state level targets, including candidates for Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, state legislatures, and local election officials
• Responsible for managing the State Level Research team: defining projects, ensuring quality of the work produced by the team, and providing training and feedback needed to develop as researchers and produce research products in crucial state and local elections across the country
• Serve as a member of senior staff and work with the organization's leadership team to establish the strategic direction of research projects and messaging
• Help lead AB PAC's rapid response research efforts, working closely with communications staff to identify earned media opportunities and capitalize on them
• Present research to partners; work with partners on an ongoing basis to meet their research needs

Skills and qualifications required:

• At least one full election cycle of managing a research team
• Experience training junior researchers in research techniques and strategies
• At least three election cycles of opposition research experience
• Expertise in Lexis Nexis, public records research, video research, federal and state databases
