    If you are passionate about global public investment, GPI Network is seeking to appoint an Executive Director to provide strategic direction and executive management on all aspects of global public finance work for collaborative international response.

    Core Responsibilities

    1. Strategic Leadership and Governance
      • Lead the development and execution of GPI Network’s long-term strategic vision, aligning resources, budget and driving strategy in alignment with the Strategic Plan.
      • Ensure strong governance, legal compliance, and accountability, in line with South African regulations and best practices.
      • Provide clear, timely reporting to the Steering Committee on strategic progress, key risks, and critical decisions.
      • Communicate regularly with the Steering Committee, keeping them up to date on how the agenda is being advanced.
      • Meet with the Chair and Vice Chair monthly to ensure communications between meetings are strong and that the Steering Committee remains informed, well utilised and supportive.
    2. Management and Operations
      • Lead and support daily operations to ensure effective delivery of the Secretariat strategic objectives.
      • Maintain regular communication with the Steering Committee on all activities, deliverables and strategic updates.
      • Manage and mentor direct reports to foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
      • Ensure clear internal communication, decision making and alignment across teams and functional areas.
      • Oversee development and implementation of internal policies, systems and procedures.
      • Collaborate with external service providers to maintain smooth back-office operations for audit, reporting and compliance obligations.
    3. Resource Mobilisation
      • Lead and implement fundraising activities and the business development strategy to ensure long term financial stability of GPI Network.
      • Develop and execute the Resource Mobilisation Plan, including measurable goals, timelines and donor engagement tactics.
      • Coordinate donor mapping exercises for new network donors.
      • Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective donors, including philanthropic foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies, and aligned partners.
      • Contribute to proposal, budget and grant application development and compliance.
      • Collaborate with member working groups to identify and organise strategic advocacy events, aligning with GPI’s influence agenda.
      • Lead the develop external communications and issue-driven campaigns to elevate visibility, attract new supporters, and demonstrate impact.
    4. Strategic Management
      • Oversee the coordination and implementation of all workstreams to raise awareness, enhance the GPI Network member base and establish good governance.
      • Manage strategic implementation and oversight of programmatic activities.
      • Develop, implement, and evaluate the Strategic Plan.
      • Facilitate and rollout the communication of the Strategic Plan through the internal and external communications strategy.
      • Lead overall budget oversight including budget development, monitoring of expenditures and preparation of financial reports.
    5. External Communications & Representation
      • Serve as the primary spokesperson and ambassador for GPI Network for all events across global platforms.
      • Build and sustain high-level relationships with key stakeholders, including multilateral institutions, international NGOs, regional networks, academia, and policymakers.
      • Represent GPI Network in international forums, panels, conferences, coalitions, and global advocacy platforms relevant to public finance, fiscal justice, and development.
      • Identify and pursue strategic speaking and thought leadership opportunities that raise GPI Network’s profile and strengthen its influence in global public finance discourse.
      • Build strong relationships with members to promote engagement that amplifies GPI Network’s voice and visibility.
    6. Impact
      • Ensure alignment of initiatives to GPI Network’s mission to deliver measurable value to members, stakeholders, and the broader public finance ecosystem.
      • Lead the development and implementation of systems to monitor, evaluate, and communicate impact across the network.
      • Foster a culture of learning, reflection, and adaptation by ensuring insights from implementation and evaluation, guide future strategy, resource allocation, and advocacy priorities.
      • Coordinate the preparation of impact reports and annual reviews for the Board, donors, and external partners, promoting transparency and accountability.
    7. Culture and External Presence
      • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive remote team culture.
      • Support internal communication and team building efforts.
      • Represent GPI Network’s mission, values, and tone in external-facing communications, meetings, and engagements with partners and stakeholders.
      • Uphold confidentiality, cultural awareness, and high standards of conduct in all professional interactions.

    Requirements

    Education

    A postgraduate degree (Master’s or equivalent) in economics, public finance, international development, public policy, political science, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years of senior-level leadership experience in a nonprofit, international network, think tank, or public policy organization.

    Experience

    • Working with or in Governments in either Asia, Africa and/or Latin America.
    • Demonstrated expertise in global public finance, fiscal justice, or related fields such as tax policy, debt, international financial institutions, or economic governance; as well as experience in strategic planning, program implementation, financial oversight, and governance.
    • Understanding of nonprofit financial management and proven success in fundraising, donor relations, and resource mobilization in international or multi-stakeholder contexts.
    • Significant experience in external representation, coalition-building, and policy influence at regional or global levels.
    • Familiarity working with or within multilateral organizations, global civil society networks, or advocacy coalitions is highly desirable.
    • Experience in structuring and managing collaborative projects, ensuring shared accountability, knowledge exchange, and operational efficiency.
    • Previous work with, mentoring and developing remote teams across different time zones.
    • Awareness of global political, fiscal, and development landscapes, particularly as they relate to the Global South.

    Skills, Competencies and Attributes

    • Must be fluent in English, and Spanish. French highly desirable as well as local languages from Asia, Africa, or Latin America.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization compellingly to high-level audiences, donors, and partners
    • A track record of published work, public speaking, and participation in key sectoral discussions.
    • Strategic and analytical thinking skills, with the ability to set clear priorities, make decisions in complex environments, and align diverse activities with long-term goals.
    • Interpersonal and negotiation skills; able to manage stakeholder expectations diplomatically and effectively.
    • Flexibility and adaptability to fast changing environments.
    • High level of cultural competence and sensitivity to power dynamics, with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and participatory leadership.
    • Mission-driven and values-aligned, with a deep commitment to fiscal justice, transparency, and democratic governance.
    • Proactive, adaptive, and solutions-oriented; comfortable with ambiguity and change.
    • High integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.
    • Advanced computer skills, particularly MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
    • Based in Africa, Asia, Latin America.
