    Description

    The Community Service Society (CSS) is an independent, not-for-profit organization at the forefront of public policy innovations supporting low-income New Yorkers for more than 185 years. CSS operates health insurance enrollment and consumer assistance ombuds programs that help over 120,000 New Yorkers enroll in and use health coverage and otherwise access health care. It also coordinates Health Care for All New York (HCFANY), a coalition of 170 groups dedicated to securing quality, affordable coverage for all New Yorkers, and the #EndMedicalDebt campaign which has successfully advocated to reform the medical debt system in New York. The CSS health policy team has issued influential reports for over a decade, leading to meaningful policy and legal reforms for patients.

    CSS seeks a talented data analyst to join the Health Policy team to provide research and analytical support to patient advocacy efforts.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Select and apply appropriate statistical techniques to develop and support the CSS health policy agenda.
    • Work with large data sets, including data cleaning and conducting bivariate and multivariate statistical analysis.
    • Draft consumer-facing and legislator-facing written materials that support patient advocacy goals, including, but not limited to, issue briefs, reports, and presentations.
    • Conduct literature reviews, synthesizing existing research from academic literature and external research organizations.
    • Participate in, and occasionally coordinate, administrative and legislative advocacy including public forums, conferences, and legislative advocacy days.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    Job Qualifications:

    • Graduate degree in public health, statistics, economics, public policy, or a related field.
    • Must possess knowledge of statistical software (e.g., Stata, R, SPSS) and the ability to work with various datasets.
    • Excellent quantitative, data analysis, and policy research skills.
    • Excellent written communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively.
    • Ability to respond quickly to a fast-paced policy environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Experience in health policy and/or advocacy preferred, including knowledge of the Affordable Care Act and health insurance.
    • Passion for patient advocacy and promoting health equity.
    • Limited regional travel required.

    Salary and Benefits: The annual salary range for this position is $84,710.00 to $88,946.00. Community Service Society provides a comprehensive employee benefits package including health, dental, and vision coverage, life, AD&D, and long-term disability insurance, annual performance-based bonus, 403b retirement savings plan, defined benefit retirement plan, flexible spending accounts, commuter benefits plan, EAP, and more in addition to paid holidays, vacation, sick, and personal days.

    CSS currently offers a hybrid work environment requiring onsite work at CSS’ office at least two days per week and three days per week remote work.
