Communications Manager

Supervisor: Assistant Director of Communications

Starting Salary Range: $67,000-71,000

The Role: The Communications Manager will support the success of communications projects, working closely with the Communications team and cross functionally, throughout the organization. This position is a hands-on opportunity to uplift Project Bread’s systemic approach to ending hunger.

The person best-suited for this position is exceptionally organized, thrives in a fast-paced work environment, possesses a meticulous attention to detail, can successfully prioritize and manage multiple duties, works collaboratively, and is committed to bringing an equity and inclusivity lens to all work. The position is responsible for keeping projects on-track and on-budget, managing relationships with various vendors and partners, and supporting high-quality communications to spread awareness for food resources and programs and the Project Bread brand in Massachusetts.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Project Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Lead project management for Communication Department projects, including annual team workplan, taking a hands-on approach to ensure goals are met.
  • Coordinate communication and creative support for organizational initiatives, collaborating closely with Development, Policy, and Program teams on projects such as The Walk for Hunger, Make Hunger History, or Summer Eats,
  • Oversee language translation process; review internal requests, manage work with translation vendor, and maintain internal records of translated materials.
  • Serve as central point of contact for internal departments and external partners, developing project briefings, managing timelines and deliverables, and maintaining strong communication throughout each project’s lifecycle.
• Content & Collateral Management
  • Maintain content across Project Bread’s primary web domains, ensuring accessibility and accuracy in multiple languages.
  • Manage and organize inventory of digital and physical communication materials and collateral.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors for collateral printing and production.
  • Support content creation, proofreading, and media outreach as needed, reviewing content through an equity lens, to ensure communications are inclusive, accessible, and responsive to diverse audiences.
• Monitor and track progress on communications initiatives, evaluating opportunities for improvement and future optimization.

Organizational Responsibilities:

• Participate in the annual Walk for Hunger, which includes working as event staff the weekend of the Walk, and attending pre-Walk events
• Participate in organization-wide events and meetings
• Act to promote, sustain, and grow Project Bread’s positive, productive, and inclusive working environment.

Additional Qualifications and Experience:

• Personal commitment to preventing and ending hunger in Massachusetts, 3+ years of experience in a professional environment, with a focus on communications or project management
• Excellent communication skills; understands how to clearly organize and share information for a variety of audiences; is a strong proofreader, editor, and writer.
• Takes initiative to work independently and lead on assigned projects.
• Ability and willingness to learn new technical systems and software.
• Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with website content management systems and Asana (and/or similar project management software) is a plus.
• Although it is not required for the position, the ability to speak multiple languages is a significant asset.

Additional Requirements:

Working Location: All employees are currently working a hybrid remote and in-office model and are expected to spend at least some time in the office each week. The Communications Manager will need to be present in the East Boston office on a regular basis, typically Tuesdays and Thursdays.
