At Southshire Community School, we are seeking a director who believes that an inspired education begins with inspiring teachers and leaders. The director plays a key role in advancing the school’s progressive educational mission and cultivating a deeply respectful, inclusive community. The director works collaboratively and in conjunction with the Director of Teaching and Learning.
This position requires someone who is passionate about supporting independent learning, child development, collaboration, and whole-child education. Our mission is to help children become individuals with critical thinking skills, who value themselves and others as creative, contributing members of a community, who see themselves as problem solvers, who love learning for its own sake, and who view learning as a lifelong process.
Our 35-40 students range from K-8 and study within intentionally small, multi-grade classroom settings nestled within a multi-age learning community where the children’s interests and inquiries drive an emergent curriculum. Children at Southshire are supported in a culture of respect, progressing at their own pace and held to expectations of excellence. We work in close connection with families to support each student’s goals. The director serves as both a community and operations leader.
The director will engage with the larger community through meetings, events, and partnerships that serve the needs of the Southshire community. Familiarity with child-centered learning environments and whole child education in a progressive educational setting is strongly desired.
Areas of responsibilities include: Community engagement and development; educational program support, standards compliance and best practices; human resources; student recruitment, enrollment & records; maintain and build, operational systems; maintain finances & accounting; after-school coordination; support fundraising, support board of directors.
