    About Interfaith Social Services:

    Founded in 1947, Interfaith Social Services provides South Shore residents with the resources necessary to support a healthy and fulfilling life. Our team of clinicians, staff and volunteers deliver programs focused on alleviating hunger, providing mental health counseling, preventing homelessness, and bringing joy to children. Interfaith’s food pantry is one of the largest in Greater Boston, distributing 100,000+ bags of groceries and essential hygiene products to local residents in need every year. www.InterfaithSocialServices.org.

    Each week 160+ volunteers fulfill reoccurring weekly assignments throughout Interfaith’s various programs. Each year 600+ corporate and community volunteers fulfill one day volunteer assignments serving Interfaith’s clients.

    Position Summary: The Volunteer Coordinator is a dynamic and multifaceted role responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient daily operations of Interfaith Social Services while simultaneously cultivating and managing a robust volunteer program. This position requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual with strong leadership skills, a passion for community service, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, clients and donors.

    The Coordinator will spend the majority of their time supervising Interfaith’s volunteer program and a portion of their week will be spent overseeing the operational needs of the organization.

    Type of position: Fulltime

    • Approximately 35 hours a week
    • Some weekend and evening hours may be required a few times throughout the year

    Volunteer Oversight Responsibilities:

      • Act as the main point of contact for all current and potential volunteers
      • Oversee all new volunteer interviews, orientations and ongoing training
      • Develop and manage volunteer schedules to ensure adequate staffing for all programs and services
      • Assist in supervising teams of corporate and community volunteers for each seasonal initiative and ongoing program needs
      • Implement strategies to recognize and appreciate volunteer contributions and foster a positive and supportive volunteer environment
      • Help plan and implement annual Volunteer Appreciation event
      • Maintain records related to volunteer activities
      • Assist with social media recognition of volunteers

    Operations Responsibilities

    • Point person for facility and all equipment
    • Supervise the Facility Manager
    • Order all office supplies
    • Supervise all of the organization’s contracts and track which are nearing renewal
    • Assist executive director with occasional projects and tasks

    Qualifications:

      • Exceptional attention to detail
      • Strong interpersonal skills
      • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
      • A desire to serve those in need
      • Patient and extremely comfortable with personal interactions, including speaking on the phone and one-on-one with volunteers, staff, and clients
      • Comfort and confidence conducting data entry
    • Extensive experience and understanding of Microsoft Excel and G Suite
    • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs
      • Strong organizational and time management skills
      • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
