    JOB DESCRIPTION

    Job Title: Controller

    Department: Finance

    Reports To: Chief Financial Officer

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    SUMMARY OF PURPOSE OF JOB:

    Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for all financial reporting and operations for four entities.This position will be the resident GAAP expert, with deep and current experience in non-profit financial reporting and fund accounting. This position will lead all day-to-day accounting operations and supervise the accounting team including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger and other daily requirements. The Controller will ensure systems and procedures are in place to support effective program implementations and conduct clean audits. This position will work across the organization to educate staff regarding accounting procedures and also explore how the accounting function can be enhanced to support operations. The Controller is responsible for ensuring that accurate, timely and effective accounting, regulatory, and audit requirements are met and that practices are in accordance with established accounting practices as well as all pertinent laws and regulations.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties

    • Oversees finance department to ensure accounting system and proper controls are in place and working; oversees completion of annual audits and tax returns; oversees monthly financial reporting, review month end closing activities, including accounting entries, balance sheet reconciliations and monthly financial reports
    • Responsible for monthly financial reporting, year-end reporting, forecasting/budgeting and financial analysis while working with immediate supervisor, Budget and Finance Committee, Audit Committee, Executive Committee, staff and Committee Chairs and other members.
    • Responsible for cash flow and cash management, investments, banking and investment advisor relationships. Reviews weekly payables, weekly receipts and accounts receivable.Works with Budget and Finance Committee and Asset Guidance Group to manage cash and investments.
    • Oversees Information Technology function including computer support, network administration, phone and data, and audio/visual services.
    • Oversees all ticket accounting and reconciliations.
    • Oversees the Human Resource administrative function (i.e. employee benefits, time keeping, workers comp claims, retirement plan).Oversees management of the Retirement Plan.
    • Manages comprehensive commercial insurance for the entities while working with insurance brokers and Budget and Finance task team. Responsible for incident management.
    • Serves as a member of the staff leadership team, which is responsible for planning, strategic initiatives and ensuring that annual organizational goals are achieved.
    • Manages direct reports, to include: selection of staff, establishing goals and performance expectations, coaching and directing assignments, evaluation of performance and professional development.
    • Develops and manages operating budget for assigned area; provides variance reporting to senior management.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position supervises the Director, Finance, Director, Accounting, Manager, Finance and Finance Office Coordinator.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance and/or Accounting, with 7 – 10 years of progressively more responsible experience in public or private accounting roles.
    • Experience with non-profits and endowments.
    • CPA license desirable.
    • Experience with ticketing of major events preferred.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

    REASONING ABILITY

    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

    CPA License preferred

    COMPENSATION

    Annual compensation $150,000 to $175,000, including health and medical benefits.
