    Description

    The Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) is a comprehensive supplemental education and youth development organization that works to help motivated students develop the intellectual curiosity, academic ability, social values, and personal resilience they need to ensure success in school, career, and life. HEAF identifies scholars in middle school and supports them until they graduate from college through a variety of after-school, Saturday, and summer educational and youth development programs.

    Position Description:

    The ideal candidate will be able to support our middle school and high school students' needs via instruction as well as program planning. We are looking for someone who is passionate for youth development, has experience working with both MS & HS students, is comfortable facilitating lesson plans pertaining to life skills, college readiness and general education and has experience in working administrative roles in an educational setting.

    HEAF has two primary modes of learning that our program offers. HEAF Achieve, which caters to our 6th - 12th grade students that take weekly classes and attend weekly program offerings on site and HEAF Inspire, which caters to the same grade levels but actually supports directly at the Middle School or High School we are partnered with. This role supports our full time programming staff by ensuring that all programming needs are met ranging from instruction on site and instruction at the schools we collaborate with, to record keeping, chaperoning and outreach to our program’s students and families. This role is extremely diverse and is designed to supplement our families in multiple ways to ensure we are offering the highest quality of programming!

    Job Type: Part-Time, Hybrid (rotating schedule)

    Program Details:

    • Program Dates: Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 - Wednesday, December 17th, 2025
    • Program Days - Fixed Schedule - up to 4 days per week, (In Person: Tuesday & Wednesday, Virtual Monday & Thursday from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm. ***There will be select flexible weeks of in person support requests on Mondays, Thursdays & Saturdays (w/ 2 - 3 weeks notice of Fixed Schedule variance) to assist with our trip coverage, school visits and special workshops that fall outside of above program schedule*
    • Support Hours: 10 hours per week
    • Location: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd., 10th Floor, New York, NY 10027 &

    PAL Harlem - 441 Manhattan Avenue (corner of 119th St.), New York, NY 10026

    Responsibilities:

    • Facilitate engaging lessons, activities and make modifications when necessary.
    • Provide HEAF Inspire and HEAF achieve programming support such as, but not limited to, lesson planning, preparation & facilitation, classroom management & set up, chaperoning of students between two work locations on and on program trips, communications/ outreach support and other core programming needs.
    • Foster a collaborative and stimulating learning environment that encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and active participation.
    • Work with students from grades 6th -12th in a one on one and group setting.
    • Incorporate real-world examples to connect course material with students' lives and interests.
    • Assess student understanding and provide constructive feedback.
    • Completely weekly administrative tasks assigned by a weekly check in document.
    • Maintain communication with program leadership regarding student progress, administrative and curriculum updates.

    Job Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in related fields (graduate students are encouraged to apply).
    • 1 -3 years of teaching experience, or direct youth experience, with middle school & high school students (ages 11 - 18).
    • Dedicated to the development and unwavering commitment to the youth in our community.
    • Experience in project-based and inquiry-based learning techniques.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Impeccable classroom management skills.
    • Detail oriented, organized and familiar with Google Workspace.
    • Willingness to promote HEAF's educational and youth development philosophy.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with HEAF staff.
    • Ability and willingness to commit to the entire program.

    Compensation:

    $25/ hour
