    Role Description

    About Urban Peace Movement

Urban Peace Movement (UPM) builds youth leadership in Oakland and the East Bay to transform the culture and conditions that drive violence and mass incarceration in low-income communities of color. UPM uses an approach we call "Healing-Centered Youth Organizing" ( and ) to support young people to feel self-confident and hopeful while empowering them to work for healing, racial justice, and equity.

Since 2009, UPM's organizing work has focused on "Justice Reinvestment" through dismantling the systems of mass incarceration and juvenile incarceration in Alameda County and investing in community-based solutions to safety that strengthen and uplift our communities. Our Community Healing Initiative works to support individuals who have been impacted by community violence and we create opportunities for healing at the community-level through healing circles and healing and wellness events and festivals.
