Urban Peace Movement (UPM) builds youth leadership in Oakland and the East Bay to transform the culture and conditions that drive violence and mass incarceration in low-income communities of color. Since 2009, UPM's organizing work has focused on "Justice Reinvestment" through dismantling the systems of mass incarceration and juvenile incarceration in Alameda County and investing in community-based solutions to safety that strengthen and uplift our communities. Our Community Healing Initiative works to support individuals who have been impacted by community violence and we create opportunities for healing at the community-level through healing circles and healing and wellness events and festivals.

Position Overview
Urban Peace Movement is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented Events and Outreach Manager to strengthen our community engagement efforts, and manage our in-person events and experiences throughout Oakland and Alameda County. We are seeking an experienced, values-aligned professional who can build on our existing relationships, develop new partnerships, and create meaningful events that advance our community-engagement work, youth organizing strategy, social justice campaigns, and fundraising efforts.
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Events and Outreach Manager will serve as the primary manager for our community-facing events and outreach efforts to UPM volunteers and alumni. The ideal candidate will be a detail-focused and highly-organized operator who will consistently anticipate and fulfill project and organizational needs, manage and execute tasks, meet deadlines, and produce high-quality deliverables. The Manager’s success requires exemplary project management skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and executive leaders. The Manager will also serve as a key ambassador for the organization, managing community relationships and ensuring our events and in-person experiences reflect UPM’s values and deep commitment to Oakland youth and community.
Preferred candidates will have a strong understanding of Oakland’s history of justice movements, youth organizing, and cultural resilience, particularly as it relates to communities impacted by violence and systemic inequities, and bring a track record of producing exceptional events of various sizes and formats. Candidates with prior experience in organizations working to end mass incarceration and advance community safety, or similar social justice experience is preferred (but not required). Top candidates will bring a strategic mindset, sound judgement, a collaborative spirit, and a practical, hands-on approach to the role, while demonstrating capacity to work alongside UPM colleagues, youth members, and various vendors, service providers, and community partners to successfully execute our mission.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Full-time Hybrid Work Hours
UPM’s full-time employees typically work Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. with occasional events and activities outside those hours. UPM staff are currently expected to work a minimum of 2-3 full work-days in-person at UPM’s Downtown Oakland office,* with some staff working up to four days in-person. The daily time schedule is flexible based on the need to fulfill the role’s duties successfully, and will be determined in consultation with the supervisor. (*subject to change)
Travel
UPM works in Oakland and Alameda County. City and county-wide travel is required as needed. Candidates must have access to a reliable vehicle and a valid CA class C driver’s license and be eligible and able to legally operate a motor vehicle, including rental vehicles. Occasional regional domestic travel may be required for meetings and conferences.

Position Type, Compensation, and Benefits
This role is a 100% FTE, exempt, salaried position. The gross hiring salary range is $80,000 - $85,000 annually and is commensurate with prior experience and qualifications.
