    Join the OFRC Team!

Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC) has been in operation since 1924, with a mission to promote and celebrate connections between nature, family, and community, creating unique opportunities to advance environmental awareness, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment. Each year, we welcome hundreds of campers of all ages from Oakland and the San Francisco Bay Area to our property in the Plumas National Forest. The "Original Working Person's Vacation," OFRC strives to serve the families of Oakland with our signature Family Camp Program, and we also partner with the City of Oakland's Parks and Recreation Department for Youth Camp programs. Finally, we partner with several rental groups throughout each summer, including non-profit and corporate retreats, education and recreation programs, and even weddings!

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Non-Profit Accountant to join our team for a short-term, time-bound opportunity from ASAP until mid-October, with the possibility of extension. While initially on-site in the High Sierras, after September 3, 2025 work can be completed off-site from your location.

    What’s Our Location Really Like?

Nestled in the High Sierras, OFRC is a nature-lovers' dream; you’ll have access to hiking trails, watering holes, and serene views on a daily basis. A rustic, outdoor environment means there is wildlife around, and weather can be somewhat unpredictable. Campers are around every day and you’ll have the opportunity to engage with them and your fellow staff during shared meals.

    Compensation & Benefits:

    • Pay: $1,000 per week
    • Room and Board at No Cost (if needed): While living on site is not required for every position, we will offer housing and meals (when the dining hall is in operation) at no cost to the employee. All OFRC staff have access to platform tents and fastened canvas walls OR a wooden, rustic cabin. There is one electrical outlet or portable power block in each tent, a camp bed, small table and chair, and a shelf. There is no plumbing or restroom connected to the tents, but we have bath houses throughout camp with private stalled showers and toilets.

    Key Responsibilities:

The Accountant will be responsible for overseeing and managing all accounting activities, ensuring the financial health and accuracy of Oakland Feather River Camp. This includes:

    • Managing payroll processing and related accounting entries.
    • Handling accounts payable and accounts receivable.
    • Tracking and reconciling all transactions related to the camp store, a vital revenue stream for our non-profit program.
    • Manage month-end and quarter-end close processes in a timely fashion.
    • Generate reports including Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities, Budget vs. Actual and beyond.
    • Maintaining accurate financial records and reports.
    • Assisting with budget monitoring and financial analysis as needed. Liaise with external finance consultants for organizational financial needs; provide data and support for their requests.
    • Ensuring compliance with relevant financial regulations and internal policies.

    Qualifications:

    • Mastery of Quickbooks Online, Paychex, and Bill.com
    • Proven experience in nonprofit or similar accounting roles
    • Experience with accrual based-accounting, grants, contributed revenue, three-dimensional reporting (currently shifting in this direction)
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Proficiency in Google Workspace.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Experience in a non-profit or camp setting is beneficial but not required.

Dates of Employment: ASAP through mid-October, with on-site work until mid-September, and the final month completed remotely.

    Our Commitment to You:

Oakland Feather River Camp is an equal opportunity employer. We believe an inclusive and diverse workforce is invaluable. OFRC encourages applications from all qualified individuals without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, disability, veteran status, record of arrest or conviction, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.
