    Description

West End Church is seeking a Communications Manager (40 hours/week) who can easily toggle between the routine tasks of communications management and high-level strategic thinking. This person is enthusiastic for the role churches play in community-building, energized by our mission of fostering a sense of belonging through worship, fellowship, and the arts, and can build and execute strategies that connect people with each other and our programs.

The Communications Manager’s professional responsibilities include:

    • Designing internet, print, and video collateral: working within our existing brand identity to craft special campaigns across all media–including physical signage, digital content, and socials–and making sure they are informative, inviting, and clear
    • Producing weekly newsletters, bulletins, event livestreams, and social posts in coordination with our staff
    • Hosting website and digital accounts: making sure our website, social media, and online calendar are accurate and up-to-date, and that new and existing programs are promoted consistently across all platforms according to a reliable schedule
    • Optimizing platform usage: creating a workable communications plan that can both draw in new attendees and meet the needs of our existing multigenerational membership
    • Technical direction: coordinating all technical aspects and subcontractors to ensure high-quality output across media channels
    • Evaluating existing systems and aligning to best practices: taking stock of current workflows and adjusting for efficiency and fit
    • Creating a “library” of templates and process queues: making sure that individual communications from our growing staff are consistent in both form and use
    • Maintaining member rolls and mailing lists: keeping track of contact information, communications preferences, and general program engagement to give us an accurate picture of who is coming through our doors and engaging with our online content
    • Attending weekly in-person meetings: sitting in and advising the Program Team so communications are a natural extension of the strategic vision and institutional values of West End Church and its membership

    The ideal candidate:

    • Is adept in social media, information architecture, videography, and graphic design
    • Has demonstrated mastery of Squarespace, MailChimp, and Adobe Suite products like InDesign and PhotoShop, and can use this general knowledge to quickly learn and integrate industry-specific platforms like PushPay’s Church Management System
    • Has experience using CRMs to maintain up-to-date contact information, member preferences, and user groups
    • Is intelligent and empathetic, able to craft and adapt content for different audiences in multiple modes
    • Is a “people person” who enjoys human connection and the work of ministry
    • Values the role of faith, rituals, and sacred practice in building community
    • Is a collaborative team member who can work both collectively and individually
    • Is able to maintain a consistent production schedule in a fast-paced work setting

This role reports to the Director of Curriculum & Lifelong Learning. Regular in-person office hours are Monday–Thursday, 9 am to 3 pm, Sunday 9 am to 1 pm with remaining work hours to be negotiated depending on weekly duties. Some evening, weekend, and special event work is required. Note: although the church has weekly “hard deadlines” that must be met, this role is designed for people with varying work/life balance needs.
