    Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, Full time

    Contract Type: Professional services (invoice-based) for the first 3 months. The position will transition to an employment contract with benefits starting January 2026.

    Siqajan School is a community-based primary school for the children of Santa Cruz la Laguna. Responding to community needs, it opened its doors in 2024, and is growing by one grade each year until full from kindergarten through 6th grade in 2030. The school is an initiative of Amigos de Santa Cruz, an organization that has been working since 1998 to support the holistic development of Indigenous communities in Santa Cruz. The school provides a high-quality, inclusive, and culturally relevant education for primary school children, aiming to support their learning, identity, and well-being from an early age.

    Position Description:

    Colegio Siqajan is currently looking for two English teachers to join their team.The English Teacher position at Siqajan School promotes language learning as a tool for communication and personal development. He or she will be responsible for teaching English as well as other subjects, such as social studies and science, in English. The person in this role will be responsible for designing and implementing dynamic and engaging classes tailored to the students’ level, promoting both oral and written comprehension. Additionally, they must integrate pedagogical strategies that motivate students and strengthen their confidence in using English both inside and outside the classroom. Applicants should have a basic understanding of teaching methods and the Guatemalan National Core Curriculum (CNB); for non-Guatemalan candidates, prior experience or familiarity with classroom teaching and local educational standards is especially important.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lesson Planning: Design and implement weekly, unit-level, and annual lesson plans in English, aligned with the CNB and focused on developing communication skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) in a dynamic and interactive manner.
    • Learning Assessment: Monitor and document students’ progress in learning English, using formative and summative assessments and providing clear and constructive feedback.
    • Pedagogical Collaboration: Coordinate with other teachers and the school’s academic team to integrate English transversally into other areas of the curriculum.
    • Teaching Material: Develop and adapt educational resources in English, including games, songs, stories, digital activities, and other materials that promote meaningful learning.
    • Communication with Families: Inform parents about their children’s progress in the subject, encouraging active participation in the educational process.
    • Classroom Management: Promote a respectful, engaging, and favorable environment for language practice, using group management strategies appropriate to the context and level of the students.

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Education: English language teaching certification (PEM, TEFL/TESOL, or equivalent) is required. University studies in pedagogy or English language teaching are desirable.
    • Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience teaching English at the primary level.
    • Technical Skills: Knowledge of the National Core Curriculum (CNB), and the ability to integrate it into English language teaching, is preferred. Proficiency in digital tools such as Google Workspace and educational platforms.
    • Personal skills: Effective communication, classroom leadership, adaptability, creativity, and cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of local languages ​​such as Spanish and Kaqchikel will be an asset.

    Salary and Benefits
