    Description

    The World Toilet Organization (WTO) has newly established the role of Executive Director (ED) to lead the organization’s transformation and global expansion.

    • Position: Executive Director
    • Organization: World Toilet Organization
    • Reports to: Board of Directors
    • Work Model: Hybrid (work-from-home + on-site meetings)
    • Hours: Full-time, flexible hours to accommodate global time zones
    • Travel: Up to 25%
    • Start Date: September 2025
    • Location Preference: priority will be given to candidates based in Singapore with the right to work (Singaporean citizens or permanent residents). However, we will also consider strong

    candidates who are authorized to work in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

    The Executive Director’s core mission is to:

    • Lead the evolution from founder-led leadership to a strong, empowered executive team and an active, strategic board
    • Lead fundraising strategy and execution, including donor engagement, grant writing, corporate partnerships, and fundraising events.
    • Identify, cultivate, and maintain strategic partnerships with governments, international
    • organizations, academia, private sector entities, and civil society for system change and policy influence with scalable and replicable impact

    The ED will have a high degree of freedom to develop strategic objectives and projects that deliver on

    the organization’s mission. This is a very high-profile position as the ED will be expected to represent the WTO to government officials around the world, including and up to the Ministerial-level, private sector corporate executives, and other non-governmental organization (NGO) leaders.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Leadership & Strategy

    • Provide visionary leadership to guide the organization’s mission, values, and future direction.
    • Lead the development and execution of long-term strategic plans to ensure organizational

    growth and sustainability.

    • Oversee the translation of strategic objectives into achievable operational plans and ensure

    delivery of high-quality outcomes

    Financial Management & Fundraising

    • Expand and diversify funding sources to support programmatic growth and innovation.
    • Develop, manage, and oversee the organization’s annual budget, ensuring strong financial

    stewardship and long-term sustainability.

    Community Engagement & Public Relations

    • Serve as an ambassador of the organization, promoting its mission to the public, partners,

    media, and the international community.

    • Build and nurture relationships with donors, funders, community leaders, and strategic allies.
    • Oversee the development and implementation of marketing, advocacy, and communication

    strategies to enhance the organization’s visibility, influence, and outreach.

    • Represent the organization in high-level forums, conferences, and media engagements.

    Board Relations & Governance

    • Partner closely with the Board of Directors to support effective governance and informed
    • decision-making.
    • Prepare board meeting materials and ensure timely, accurate reporting on organizational
    • performance and risks.
    • Support the Board in adopting governance best practices and evaluating organizational
    • effectiveness.

    Requirements:

    • Strong understanding of and experience in strategy development, fundraising, compliance, and financial/ risk management
    • Experience in inspiring and maintaining a diverse, inclusive, modern, motivated, and cohesive workforce
    • Track record of persuading and influencing key stakeholders, including policy makers, politicians, and key partners
    • Approachable but leads with authority; uses emotional intelligence to help build connection and engender trust
    • Natural collaborator and alliance-builder, who is open-minded and willing to question the status quo
    • Communication and engagement skills that inspire change in outlook and thinking
    • Ability to translate ambitious aims into deliverable operational plans
    • Entrepreneurial, self-starter, results-oriented mentality
    • Mobility – able to travel easily and frequently
    • Fluency in English, written and spoken, is required

    The WTO envisions a world with a clean, safe toilet for everyone, everywhere, at all times. We partner with multiple stakeholders to spark and orchestrate change at all levels. We aim to drive systemic policy change to improve sanitation conditions worldwide. The WTO is a non-profit organization, founded by Jack Sim in 2001. As founder and Board director, Jack Sim continues to play a vital role in the WTO.
