    Job Summary

    Working in close partnership with the Director of Development, the Annual Giving Manager is responsible for designing, executing, and managing a comprehensive annual giving and direct response fundraising program for My Friend’s Place. With a primary focus on cultivating individual contributors giving up to $10,000, the Annual Giving Manager leads efforts to grow a broad and engaged base of support through targeted campaigns, monthly giving programs, integrated communications, and thoughtful stewardship strategies. This position also plays a key role in contributor engagement by managing a personal portfolio of 50–75 prospects and providing strategic support to staff and board leadership in their fundraising efforts.

    In addition to frontline fundraising, the Annual Giving Manager supervises the Development Database Administrator and oversees the systems and processes that support effective contributor tracking, communications, and reporting. This includes ensuring the integrity of the organization’s CRM database, managing workflows for gift processing and acknowledgments, and developing clear documentation and protocols for development operations.

    The Annual Giving Manager also contributes to contributor research and pipeline development, tracks performance metrics, and ensures high-quality stewardship and retention efforts. The role requires strong collaboration across departments, a commitment to justice, equity and inclusion, and a service-oriented approach to contributor engagement.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Annual Giving Campaign Strategy & Execution

    • Lead the planning and execution of annual giving campaigns (e.g., spring/fall appeals, Giving Tuesday, monthly giving).
    • Coordinate cross-channel appeals—direct mail, email, social, and peer-to-peer—to drive contributor engagement and retention.
    • Collaborate with the communications team or vendors to develop content, design, and messaging.
    • Monitor campaign performance and adjust tactics accordingly.

    Portfolio Management & Contributor Engagement

    • Manage a personal portfolio of 50–75 individual contributors and prospects, focusing on annual giving capacity.
    • Cultivate, solicit, and steward contributors through personalized touchpoints, meetings, and appeals.
    • Develop customized strategies to upgrade, retain, and re-engage contributors.
    • Track all interactions and moves in the contributor database.

    Support for Organizational Fundraisers (ED/Leadership)

    • Create and maintain briefing materials and contributor profiles for use by the Executive Director, board members, and other staff.
    • Help schedule, plan, and follow up on contributor meetings and cultivation opportunities led by senior leaders.
    • Provide behind-the-scenes support for major contributor cultivation events and stewardship efforts.

    Development Operations & Systems Management

    • Supervise and provide oversight for the daily use and integrity of the contributor database (CRM)—ensure data accuracy, contact notes, and gift tracking.
    • Generate contributor reports, segmented lists, and dashboards for internal use.
    • Oversee gift processing workflows, acknowledgment letters, tax receipts, and contributor recognition systems.
    • Improve and document development operations, including timelines, calendars, and SOPs.

    Prospect Research & Pipeline Development

    • Identify and research prospective annual contributors, including emerging mid-level contributors and recurring givers.
    • Use screening tools and online resources to evaluate giving capacity and philanthropic interests.
    • Support efforts to build a pipeline of future major gift prospects.

    Stewardship & Retention

    • Develop and execute stewardship plans for annual contributors, including thank-you calls, updates, recognition, and event invitations.
    • Monitor contributor retention metrics and implement strategies to improve year-over-year giving.

    General

    • Create and actively promote a comfortable and welcoming environment where every member/participant is treated with dignity and respect in a friendly, personalized manner
    • Employ a customer service orientation in anticipating and responding to supporter needs and requests.
    • Assist with tracking development-related expenses for the purposes of annual budgeting and periodic financial reports.
    • Represent the organization at various events and engagement opportunities in the community, which may include evenings and weekends.

    OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

    Program

    • Respond to programmatic needs as required (in emergencies, when understaffed, etc.)
    • Report on development and cultivate staff engagement at All Staff meetings
