The Andrew Romay New Immigrant Center (ARNIC) empowers recent immigrants by providing them with the skills, knowledge and networks to build successful lives in the U.S. The program
includes ESL classes, weekly conversation practice as well as opportunities for professional
development and community integration. The aim of the center is to promote the full integration
of new immigrants into U.S. society. ARNIC is a program of the ESU (The English-Speaking Union). For 100 years, the ESU’s educational and cultural programs have enriched the lives of English language learners as well as U.S. students and educators.
Our Students
Our program serves recently arrived immigrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the NYC area. The students come from more than 60 countries. All are 18+ years old and have a demonstrated financial need. They all have at least an intermediate level of English. We strive to create a safe, inclusive space for them. In the words of one of our students, “every time I open the door of your center, it is with joy.”
The Role
The ESOL Instructor will teach classes at the high-intermediate level. They will support learners in developing the advanced-level English proficiency needed to more fully integrate into U.S. society. Each class taught by the ESOL instructor will have a distinct topic (i.e. Advanced Grammar Topics or Writing Skills). They will be responsible for designing the curriculum and lesson plans for the classes that they teach, with input from program staff. We are open to a wide range of possible course topics. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience teaching:
You will be joining a team of ESOL teachers, many of whom have been teaching with us for more than ten years. Our program prides itself on creating a professional, collaborative environment where teachers are given autonomy to teach creatively and meet the needs of our students.

Schedule and Location
The ESOL Instructor will teach one to three classes per week, depending on program needs. The ideal candidate will be available to teach in person. In-person classes take place at 144 East 39th Street, New York NY 10016.
Start and End Dates
This position will start on September 29, 2025.
Pay and Benefits
This is a part-time, contract position. The pay is $50 - 55 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Contractors are not eligible for benefits.
