    DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

    A key member of the Development Department, the Director of Communications leads the strategy and execution of communications that engage donors, funders, partners, and the broader community in The Brookline Center’s mission and work.

    In this exciting moment of growth and redefinition, we are seeking a communications leader who will further articulate our vision, advance the Center’s position as an innovator and thought leader, and mobilize support for our evolving role in community mental health.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Create and execute a comprehensive communications strategy to advance the mission and vision of The Brookline Center and its Innovation Institute.
    • Partner with the development team to advance philanthropy through compelling donor communications, major events, annual appeals, and ongoing engagement.
    • Research, write, and edit a wide range of communications including campaigns, impact reports, press releases, website content, newsletters, and event collateral.
    • Supervise the Digital Marketing Specialist in crafting and executing content across social media and other platforms, ensuring alignment to brand, voice, and messaging.
    • Identify and share powerful stories that illustrate the Center’s work and impact, collaborating with program staff, clients, donors, and other stakeholders.
    • Work closely with senior leaders to align communications with organizational priorities.
    • Collaborate with teams across the Center to reach and engage diverse audiences.
    • Engage and manage freelance writers, designers, and photographers.
    • Partner with the CEO and Innovation Institute leadership to advance thought leadership and elevate the Center’s profile in the mental health field.
    • Define and track key performance indicators and other metrics to assess and enhance communication effectiveness.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Five plus years’ experience in nonprofit or healthcare communications, including leading strategy development and execution.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively for different audiences.
    • Strong storytelling skills, with a knack for translating complex ideas into engaging, accessible language.
    • Demonstrated experience leading projects and people.
    • Comfortable working collaboratively with senior leaders and staff across functions.
    • Proficient in using social media, email marketing, and content management systems.
    • Able to manage multiple projects, establish priorities, and effectively meet deadlines.
    • Motivated and reliable self-starter who values collaboration, flexibility, and collegiality.
    • A personal commitment to excellence.
    • Able to attend occasional weekend and evening events and meetings.
    • Commitment to The Brookline Center’s mission and a desire to contribute to the evolution of mental health care.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.

    Work Environment

    This is a hybrid role with a combination of on-site work at our Brookline offices and remote flexibility.
