    Description

    The Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance (LBCA) is seeking a Research Associate (RA) focused on the research and outreach activities described below to join our small and growing team of dedicated employees for a fully-remote, part-time position to start this Summer/Fall. The Research Associate will support the Director of Research and the Executive Director in conducting programmatic activities including developing new outreach materials and strategies to raise awareness of ILC and the need for more research. The RA will work with Executive Staff and the Scientific and Patient Advocate Advisory Boards, among other stakeholders in implementing new actions, including assisting with the creation of educational webinars for both clinical professional and patient audiences, researching and producing new patient facing resources based on published scientific research, and assisting with the organization’s own research initiatives which includes an annual patient experience survey of those diagnosed with ILC.

    The specific responsibilities of the Research Associate will include:

    Research Related Activities:

    • Conducting in-depth background research to support content development and strategy.
    • Simplifying scientific reports, research, and presentations for the lay audience. Examples of content may include: Basic Information on LCIS, liquid biopsies, and/or promising research targets for ILC, among others.
    • Planning and implementation of internal and external survey design and data analyses for publication and abstract/poster development.
    • Development of new or revised advocacy education program materials, webinars and educational processes.
    • Coordination of provider education initiatives, including leading the outreach to appropriate professional groups to get word out about available training.
    • Manage the process of keeping patient facing resources up to date.
    • Tracking and measuring progress related to LBCA’s Strategic Plan activities.

    Outreach Related Activities:

    • Support for and possible facilitation of new and existing committees to accomplish outreach and education goals.
    • Broadening relationships and creating new collaborative initiatives with organizational partners and leaders within the breast cancer advocacy, support and research fields.
    • Support the work of executive staff on key breast cancer organization boards such as the ACS National Breast Cancer Roundtable, the National Breast Cancer Consortium and the Metastatic Breast Cancer Alliance.

    Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in public health, education, social work, public policy or other related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience, ideally in a role that includes research, writing, and project management.
    • Proven ability to distill technical or academic material into engaging, accessible writing.
    • Strong research skills and familiarity with communication about health-related topics based in science and research.

    Preferred Experience Includes:

    • Experience with survey design and data analysis.
    • Familiarity with breast cancer research.
    • Direct experience with lobular breast cancer.
    • Nonprofit or public agency experience.
    • Experience working with groups of physicians and scientists.
    • Experience making presentations, participating in and/or facilitating webinars, and committee facilitation.
    • Past experience working remotely.

    • Ability to multi-task, manage time, and project priorities, excellent writing and communication skills required.
    • Collaborative team player with a solutions-oriented mindset.
