    ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

    Black Farmer Fund (BFF) was created by Black farmers who were frustrated with the limited financing options available to them, hoping to create a funding vehicle that would challenge the racial injustices and wealth inequalities faced by Black food actors. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and an emerging community investment fund that invests patient (flexible repayment terms), and integrated capital (mix of low-interest loans and grants) in Black food businesses in the Northeast.

    BFF is by us, for us, with a community of Black farmers and food systems entrepreneurs from across the region leading the fund’s governance and decision-making around which applicants receive funding. Our process is consensus-seeking and guided by our values of economic justice, community wealth building, and managing environmental/ecological impact. We are currently in the process of making direct investments in Black food actors while emphasizing financial education, investment literacy, and active community involvement in creating these financing options.

    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    Black Farmer Fund seeks a full time Development Associate to support the maintenance of our development and fundraising activities. A qualified candidate will be expected to provide data management administration in salesforce, donor stewardship support, meeting scheduling, basic prospect research, document management, and other development related tasks. The ideal candidate also has previous administrative experience, pays attention to detail, is proactive in their communication and execution of tasks, and has a collaborative spirit.

    This position is full time and remote, requiring occasional to regular travel for in person events and workshops. BFF has a strong preference for candidates to be based in the Northeastern United States

    JOB DETAILS

    • Salary: $70,000-$80,000 annually depending on experience; 40 Hours/Week
    • Reports directly to Development & Investor Relations Director;
    • Remote, full-time position
    • Must reside in the Northeast with occasional travel for in-person events and workshops;

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Salesforce Management 15%

    • Create and update Salesforce records
    • Ensure data accuracy by maintaining clean up processes
    • Draft comprehensive data reports that capture the receipt of fundraising gifts;

    Gift Processing 20%

    • Maintain gift reconciliation processes with support the finance team
    • Ensure various types of gifts are reflected accurately in Salesforce
    • Maintain the acknowledgement letter process

    Document and Data Management 15%

    • Create, organize, and upkeep development related spreadsheets, SOP’s and other documents
    • Maintain and organize development related folders

    Grant Management 25%

    • Maintain grant calendar (grant applications and grant reports)
    • Organize grant related documents (reports, applications, award letters)
    • Grant applications and reports: making documents ready for community engagement manager to complete, and then submitting to portals/sending to foundation

    Prospect Research 10%

    • Research grant applications
    • Conduct research on individual donors for events and meetings

    Administrative 15%

    • Manage projects in Asana
    • Schedule meetings
    • Note taking: internal and external meetings, etc.
    • Administrative tasks related to donor stewardship and investor relations
    • Other duties as assigned

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Knowledge of Salesforce preferred – Familiarity with CRM platform required ;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required;
    • Proficiency in Google Suite required;
    • Familiarity with communication software (e.g., Slack and Zoom)
    • Familiarity with Asana (project management software) preferred

    SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    • 2-3 years prior experience in administrative support positions
    • 1-2 years experience in development and fundraising related administration strongly preferred
    • Experience working in a startup/nonprofit environment preferred;
    • Highly organized with the ability to work with precision and meticulous attention to detail;
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks;
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and remain flexible in a small nonprofit environment;
    • Willingness to provide development related administrative support or cross-departmental tasks and/or projects;
