    Job Title: Cinema Programmer

    Department: Cinema Operations

    Reports to: Executive Director

    Effective Date: August 1, 2025

    Full time, nonexempt

    Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000/annual

    Job Summary:

    The role of the Cinema Programmer is to ensure that the Grand Cinema is programming first run films that appeal to the Grand’s members and community. They are also responsible for developing and curating film series featuring repertory films that attract a wider range of audiences. The person in this role is expected to support and encourage other staff members in developing and curating film series that they propose.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    None

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    Film Programming and Scheduling 50%:

    • Research, solicit, screen, evaluate and select films.
    • Plan weekly film schedule for all four cinemas
    • Determine first run films that will attract members and other customers.
    • Negotiate agreements with distributors.
    • Introduce films and conduct intros, Q&As, and other film related discussions where applicable.
    • Represent the Grand Cinema at community programs.
    • Enter film information into appropriate software in a timely manner.
    • Plan film series that will drive ticket sales.
    • Oversee 253 Film Festival.
    • Oversee Tacoma Film Festival.

    Programming Development 40%:

    • Work collaboratively with colleagues to establish themes and/or topics for film series.
    • Conceive special events; solicit guests, outside experts, or others to enhance events
    • Advise and work collaboratively with the marketing team on campaigns for all films and series.
    • Collaborate on strategic development and programming of year-round film events and programs, including promotional screenings

    Financial Planning & Administration 10%:

    • Develop and manage programming and hospitality budgets with the Executive Director.
    • Participate in program evaluation, budgeting and planning activities for all Grand film programs.
    • Manage film database and all film records and information.

    Required Skills/Abilities:

    • Genuine love of movies and the movie going experience.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Collaborative mindset with willingness and desire to support other team members.
    • Understanding of general computer operating systems.

    Preferred Skills/Abilities:

    • Knowledge of film scheduling software and best practices.
    • Knowledge and enthusiasm for Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest
    • Proficient in general computer skills, including online searches, data entry, etc.
    • Previous experience as a film programmer or assistant.

    Education and Experience:

    Two years cinema experience is preferred.

    Two years nonprofit experience preferred.
