    Senior Director of Programs

    Team: Programs & Membership

    Reports To: VP of Programs & Membership

    Employment Status: Full Time/Exempt (40 hours per week)

    Salary: $109.273/ year

    Location: New York City headquarters (4 days in-office, 1 day remote), occasional travel to regional offices across New York State

    Position Overview

    The Senior Director of Programs leads a unit comprising the Community Programming, Statewide Service Coordination, and Training teams, which advance justice and opportunity for immigrants and refugees. The role oversees at least two direct reports: the Director of Community Programming and the Director of Training, with potential for additional direct reports as needed.

    This position collaborates with the Legal Director and Legal Team to ensure legal services are effectively integrated into programmatic initiatives while maintaining clear delineation of responsibilities. The Senior Director of Programs may also represent NYIC externally where appropriate, including at events, stakeholder meetings, and public engagements relevant to their areas of responsibility.

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    Organizational Leadership and Strategic Management

    • Collaborate with senior and executive leadership to establish priorities, build responsive programming, and execute organizational goals, ensuring compliance with regulatory and funder requirements
    • Maintain a high-level understanding of immigrant services across New York State and emerging needs, collaborating with the Membership and Capacity-Building team to support NYIC Members
    • Manage program implementation efforts following state/local budget and legislative victories, which could include helping to manage cross-department collaborations around educating organizations and stakeholders around the program implementation, and/or pursuing funding for the NYIC to directly implement the program itself and overseeing the execution of that work
    • Manage some government contracts, oversee budget development, and steward funder and regrantee relationships in coordination with the Membership and Capacity Building team
    • Identify and cultivate funding sources, supporting grant proposal development and reporting
    • Coordinate with the Legal Senior Director and Legal Team on areas where legal strategy intersects with programmatic efforts, ensuring alignment while respecting distinct areas of expertise
    • Serve as a liaison with legal counsel and external law firms on non-litigation matters relevant to programmatic initiatives, including data-sharing agreements, contracts, and regulatory compliance
    • Work with the Legal Senior Director to ensure shared responsibility for data privacy and protection protocols, recognizing their implications for both legal initiatives and program delivery

    Program Oversight and Team Management

    • Oversee the Community Programming team, which coordinates large-scale immigrant-serving events, including legal clinics (in collaboration with the Legal Team), Know Your Rights presentations, and community resource fairs
    • Oversee the Training Team, which operates the Immigrant Concerns Training Institute providing immigration law and service-related training to providers statewide
    • Build strong relationships with community service providers, funders, and strategic partners to enhance programmatic reach
    • Guide training and resource development to support NYIC Members and community partners around program implementation/direct services
    • Represent NYIC publicly when needed as a spokesperson

    Legal Coordination and Collaboration

    • Work in collaboration with the Legal Senior Director and Legal Team to integrate legal services into some of the Community Programming team’s events.
    • Coordinate with the Legal Senior Director and Legal Team to support the infrastructure and logistics of immigration legal clinics. Ensure internal collaboration is effective while deferring to the Legal Team on clinic design, legal strategy, and partner engagement in legal coordination spaces.
    • Provide programmatic insight on legal issues relevant to service delivery while deferring legal determinations to the Legal Senior Director

    Additional Responsibilities

    • Occasionally lift and transport materials up to 50 pounds
    • Travel within New York State as needed

    Qualifications

    • Juris Doctor required with 7 years of experience in the practice of immigration law as a team leader and project manager, ideally building programming related to immigration services
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey complex information and concepts in a digestible manner
    • Knowledge of immigration law and understanding of key needs of immigrant communities required
    • Able to use data to evaluate and design programming, experience managing and thinking critically about the design of data collection systems
    • Creative and dynamic project leader who can respond quickly to new challenges and lead in rapid response moments
    • Experience as a supervisor and a team leader required - highly proficient in team-building, coaching, mentoring, and developing talent
    • Committed to building and supporting diverse teams, highly culturally competent manager who can effectively engage diverse voices in developing and carrying out the organization’s priorities
    • Fluency in a language other than English is a bonus, though not required
    • Must be authorized to work in the US for any employer

    Annual Salary: $109,273.00**
