  • Mission

We strive to protect and improve the lives of homeless free-roaming community cats through learning as a means to guide our work, and community education and collaboration to facilitate cat care. We promote the benefits of spay/neuter as the primary way humans can assist cats to live healthier and safer lives. We apply this approach to community cats to positively transform the public’s attitude.

    About Us

Our primary program, called Trap/Neuter/Return or Place (TNR/P), supports income insecure Dutchess County, NY residents by focusing help on free-roaming community cats and the people who care for them called colony caretakers. Colony caretakers form emotional bonds with these outdoor, unsocialized cats that is every bit as strong as if the cats lived indoors with them in their home as family pets. Not feeding them at all is simply not an option for them.

Colony caretakers are often placed in an impossible position of feeding cats near their home or work place yet not having financial means to provide other basic services such as spay/neuter or treatment for injuries or illness. They watch helplessly as the population expands. This puts further burden on them to provide more food while simultaneously decreasing the overall health and stability of the cats. Kittens born in such an environment disproportionately endure predation, starvation and illness. Without intervention, the problem easily spirals out of control.

Stray H.E.L.P. assists these individuals to properly manage their colony through spay/neuter, proper feeding, watering and sheltering practices. We also offer support for them if cats appear with injury or illness. If a friendly cat arrives, we assist them in finding appropriate placement for the cat that doesn't belong on the street.
