The Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles at UCLA

About Us

We have launched a major ongoing assessment of the prospects for justice and equal opportunity under law for racial and ethnic minorities in the United States at the beginning of the twenty-first century. The Civil Rights Project/Proyecto Derechos Civiles at UCLA is a very complex undertaking involving both cooperation across institutional and disciplinary lines within UCLA, and joint ventures with institutions and thinkers around the country. By building strong collaborations between researchers and forging relationships between scholars, community organizations, and policy makers, we hope to:* respond to critical issues on the public agenda by convening conferences and roundtables;

  • produce original research on civil rights and equal opportunity policies;
  • identify key research needs in civil rights and stimulate cutting-edge research within the various disciplines;
  • design and conduct training for students, community leaders, journalists, policy officials, lawyers, and others; and
  • improve the channels through which research findings are translated and communicated between policymakers and the broader public
