    The Gentiva Hospice Volunteer Program offers compassionate individuals the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of patients and their families during end-of-life care. Volunteers are integral members of the care team, providing emotional, spiritual, and practical support tailored to each patient's needs.

    🌟 Volunteer Roles

    Gentiva provides a variety of volunteer opportunities to suit different interests and skills:

    • Companionship and Emotional Support: Engage with patients through conversations, reading, playing games, or simply being present to offer comfort.
    • Creative and Recreational Activities: Share talents like music, art, gardening, or baking to enrich patients' daily experiences.
    • Administrative Assistance: Support office functions such as organizing documents, making phone calls, or preparing materials for patients and families.
    • Veteran-to-Veteran Support: Veterans can offer unique companionship to fellow service members, participating in activities like pinning ceremonies and sharing military experiences.

    🛠️ Training and Requirements

    No medical background is necessary to become a Gentiva hospice volunteer. The program provides comprehensive training covering topics such as hospice philosophy, grief counseling, communication skills, and patient privacy regulations. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and complete a background check, drug screening, TB test—all provided at no cost.

    • Direct Patient Care: Visit patients to provide companionship, assist with light activities, or offer respite to caregivers.
    • Veteran Support: Engage in veteran-specific programs to honor and support patients with military backgrounds.
    • Administrative Roles: Help with office tasks, such as organizing files or contacting patients to ensure they have necessary supplies.
