About Us

The Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that works with more than 150 partner rescue groups and no-kill shelters to offer important programs and services to save the lives of NYC's homeless animals. Receiving no government funding, we are supported by donations from foundations, corporations, and individuals. As we mark our tenth anniversary in 2013, we are committed to transforming New York City into a no-kill community by 2015: where no dogs or cats of reasonable health and temperament will be killed merely because they do not have homes.

The Alliance’s key initiatives address pet overpopulation, reduce euthanasia, and promote adoption through its partner rescue groups and no-kill shelters, including the coordination several large-scale adoption events throughout NYC. The Wheels of Hope and NYC’s Feral Cat Initiative are two of the Alliance’s most critical programs in the effort to save the lives of NYC’s animals and prevent the birth of thousands more.

Wheels of Hope

Wheels of Hope transports animals from the city shelters to no-kill shelters, rescues, vet hospitals, foster and adoptive homes – our fleet of five vans transported more than 16,000 animals in 2012 alone.

NYC’s Feral Cat Initiative

NYC’s Feral Cat Initiative addresses the community cat overpopulation crisis in NYC through the humane, non-lethal method of Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), the only effective method of reducing community cat populations.
