About Us

"Whenever I wonder if what I'm doing matters, I just take in the big and genuine smile I get every week, or the little hand in mine as we walk back to the classroom...and I know the relationship matters."

-Seedling Mentor

More than 2.7 million children in the U.S. have a parent in prison. That’s one in every 28 children. Until now, there have been no systems in place to provide support for these children. In 2006, concerned school principals in Austin requested help for this growing population of children in their schools.  In response, Seedling Foundation's Mentor Program was launched.

The mission of Seedling is to support children challenged by parental incarceration by providing innovative, research-driven, school-based mentoring.

Seedling Foundation’s in-school mentoring program is designed to provide children with a long-term, positive relationship to help them navigate the challenges experienced during an extended period of family separation; and, to help children develop or maintain positive attitudes towards connections to school, so that they may understand the critical need for education to achieve their long-term goals.
