    About Us

Inspired by their love of nature, our founders Beman and Bertie Dawes established The Dawes Arboretum in 1929. The Arboretum now covers over 1,800 acres and includes 12 miles of hiking trails and a four-mile Auto Tour. We have more than 16,000 living plants in our collection including diverse areas to visit such as the Japanese Garden and Dutch Fork Wetlands. The Dawes Arboretum is a not-for-profit public operating foundation engaged in scientific education in horticulture, natural history and Arboretum history. The Dawes Arboretum fulfills the vision of our founders by obtaining and displaying outstanding varied plant collections; by cultivating awareness, understanding and appreciation of nature through education, research and history; by giving pleasure to the general public; and by preserving our hertiage.
