    Description

    Front-End Systems Developer

Build With Purpose. Code for Community Resilience.

SILO² (Social Intelligence Laboratory for Opportunities in Systems Innovations with Localized Outcomes) is a nonprofit tech and research organization building digital platforms that promote violence prevention, harm reduction, and community resilience—especially in under-resourced and remote communities where traditional tech investment often doesn’t reach.

We are building a composable, React-based, API-first platform that powers public education, humanitarian coordination tools, field-ready eLearning, and real-time data systems. This is not just another SaaS build—this is a chance to put your skills to work where they’re urgently needed.

We’re seeking a mission-driven Front-End Developer to volunteer with our technical development and operations team to help architect and build accessible, responsive, and dynamic user interfaces using cutting-edge technologies—contributing to tools that increase safety, access, and connection.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Build and maintain reusable front-end components using React, Tailwind CSS, and shadcn/ui.
    • Implement dynamic pages and interface logic that consume APIs from our headless Drupal CMS (using next-drupal.org).
    • Collaborate closely with our User Experience Developer, Data Systems Developer, and the content/design team to bring mission-aligned, human-centered interfaces to life.
    • Ensure WCAG accessibility and mobile-first performance across all tools.

🔧 Tech Stack You’ll Work With:

    • React (Next.js)
    • Tailwind CSS
    • shadcn/ui
    • Headless Drupal APIs (via Next-Drupal)

    🧠 Ideal Experience:

    • Proficient in building modular, responsive UIs using React and Tailwind.
    • Familiar with consuming and rendering structured content from headless CMS systems.
    • Comfortable working in agile or collaborative open-source-style environments.
    • Bonus: Experience with humanitarian tech, accessibility, offline-first strategies, or mapping libraries.

    🛠 Why Join Us?

    • Your code will directly support educators, crisis response teams, human services, and community organizations.
    • You’ll help amplify voices and deliver secure, life-changing tools to people in places where tech usually doesn’t reach.
    • Flexible, remote collaboration with a passionate, multidisciplinary team.
    • Portfolio-building opportunity with real-world social impact.

    Commitment:

    • 3–6 hours per week (flexible)
    • 3-month minimum commitment preferred
    • Remote and asynchronous (we work via GitHub, Discord, 365 for Nonprofits and Monday.com)
    • Occasional team meetings with Technical Development & Operations Team, based on availability and schedule

    Why Volunteer With SILO²?

You'll be part of an emerging nonprofit bringing cutting-edge, low-cost solutions to local communities. Your work will directly support digital equity, violence prevention, and access to knowledge for those often left behind in tech-driven innovation.

Whether you’re an experienced professional or an advanced student looking to build your portfolio while making a difference, this role offers meaningful impact with real-world results.
