    Description

East Valley One hour weekly Senior Companion Volunteers needed - very flexible scheduling!

If you have a kind heart, are a good listener, and want your volunteer time to feel truly meaningful, this opportunity may be the perfect fit. Our hospice is looking for friendship/companion volunteers for our senior patients located throughout the East Valley.

One of the great things about volunteering with us is flexibility with YOUR schedule. As long as it matches the patient's needs, you can choose the day and time to volunteer. As a courtesy to our patients, we ask that once the schedule is set, it remain consistent every week.

WHAT DOES A HOSPICE VOLUNTEER IN PATIENT SUPPORT DO?

Patient needs vary, but these are some common things we do:

      • Listen to stories
      • Have a conversation about life
      • Sit with them and listen to music or watch TV
      • Give the family a short respite
      • Do their hobbies with them
      • Get them a small snack or water

    WHAT WE DON'T DO:

      • Medical care
      • Any patient lifting
      • Patient transportation

WHERE DO THE VOLUNTEERS GO TO HELP PATIENTS?

Our patients are located throughout the Valley. We go to where they live! Some live at home with their family, some are in care facilities, and some are in group communities. We will try to match you with a patient who is close to where you are.

If this sounds good, you will receive hospice classroom training, supplemental healthcare training, and a joint first patient visit with the volunteer coordinator so you feel confident and comfortable.

We are looking for an hour each week, but if you have more time to spare, that's ok too!

    REQUIREMENTS:

      • Valid Arizona Driver's License
      • You must 18 or older to work directly with our patients
      • A negative Tuberculosis test result (you can bring a test result from your doctor or we can do this at orientation)
      • Background check
      • Drug Screening
      • Two-hour training class in our office located at Baseline and Gilbert
      • Take home test and exercises corresponding to classroom training
      • Ability to volunteer at least one hour a week
