It happens gradually...
A person may forget something or get confused and you would say "Happens to everyone!" then you start noticing it happens more frequently...
Memory loss is one of the signs of Alzheimers. To help patients deal with early memory loss, we have developed an amazing program called Expressions. This outpatient program focuses on activities that help keep patients' minds active through creative arts, discussions and various activities.
And we need your help.
Under the supervision of the program coordinator, our volunteers assist with the following tasks:
- carrying out activities and projects
- helping patients with exercises (hand and put away equipment only; no adjustments of body parts or direct physical contact with patients)
- projects set-up/take down
- meals set-up
We are looking for volunteers with the following characteristics and qualifications:
- outgoing individual who loves interactions with older adults with early stages of Alzheimers/dementia
- sensitivity to memory loss
- great opportunity for individuals with background in social work, counseling, psychology, nursing, geriatrics, music therapy or art therapies
- high school graduate
Program runs Mon - Fri and we are looking for one volunteer per day between 11am-3pm.
Check out the Older Adult Services Facebook page to learn more about the program.
