    About Beyond the Chair Co.:

    Beyond the Chair Co. is a nonprofit organization advocating for beauty education reform and labor protections for beauty and grooming professionals. We work at the intersection of beauty culture, social justice, labor, and education to uplift the voices and well-being of cosmetologists, barbers, nail techs, estheticians, and makeup artists.

    Position Summary: We are seeking a passionate and strategic volunteer for our Director of Development position to help shape the future of Beyond the Chair Co. by developing sustainable funding strategies, with a particular focus on grant writing, fundraising planning, and donor engagement. This part-time role is ideal for people wanting fundraising experience or wanting to volunteer their time to help a grassroots organization.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Research and identify funding opportunities aligned with our mission, including grants, foundations, and sponsorships.
    • Lead and support the writing of grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and funding applications.
    • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to build annual fundraising goals and development plans.
    • Help establish development systems, tracking, and reporting processes for grants and donors.
    • Build relationships with potential funders, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Support community fundraising efforts, including online campaigns or donor events, if applicable.
    • Contribute creative ideas for expanding and sustaining financial support for Beyond the Chair Co.’s programs and initiatives.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience with grant writing (required) and/or nonprofit fundraising.
    • Strong written communication and research skills, and competency in using Guidestar/ Candid Foundation Directory.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a flexible, start-up environment.
    • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and the values of Beyond the Chair Co.
