About COSL

The Center for Online Safety and Liberty (COSL) is dedicated to creating safer online communities while preserving digital freedoms. We’re developing the Fan Refuge fan social network, currently in alpha release, which aims to provide a moderated yet open platform for fan communities to thrive.

Position Overview

We’re seeking a passionate volunteer developer to join our team as a “Vibe Coder” – someone who brings both technical skills and positive energy to our open-source WordPress plugin development efforts. You’ll work primarily on completing, testing, and troubleshooting our CheckStep Integration plugin for BuddyBoss, along with other associated WordPress plugins that power Fan Refuge.

What You’ll Do

• Complete plugin development using our existing Replit-based codebase
• Write and execute comprehensive tests to ensure plugin reliability
• Troubleshoot and debug integration issues with BuddyBoss Platform
• Collaborate with our team on content moderation and trust & safety features
• Contribute to open-source software that will benefit the broader WordPress community
• Help shape the future of safe online fan communities

Technical Requirements

• PHP 7.4+ proficiency with WordPress plugin development experience
• WordPress/BuddyBoss platform knowledge
• API integration experience (REST APIs, webhooks)
• Git version control familiarity
• Testing frameworks experience (PHPUnit preferred)
• Replit platform comfort (we’ll provide training if needed)

• Content type definitions for various BuddyBoss content
• Webhook handling system
• Basic admin interface
• Comprehensive test suite foundation
