    Description

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit seeking a passionate volunteer to teach an African language (Swahili, Zulu, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Khoisan, or Afrikaans) to homeschooled and online middle and high school students. This class aims to expose students to the beauty and diversity of African languages and cultures, empowering Black identity and fostering positive ideas around Africa, its people, and their rich histories. The class will be open to students from various backgrounds, and the ultimate goal is to promote cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.

    Class Structure:

    • Commitment: 4 months (August - December)
    • Class Frequency: One live class per week (preferably two) via online video conferencing, held Monday through Friday between 10am and 5pm (teacher's choice, but each live class must occur on the same day)
    • Assignments: Teachers will assign assignments to students through the teacher's portal to support student learning

    Why Volunteer?

Volunteering to teach an African language offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' lives. Your role as a teacher goes beyond language instruction-you’ll be a catalyst for empowering students with a positive, authentic perspective on Black identity and the African continent.

In addition, volunteering with us provides:

    • A chance to shape the future: You’ll inspire young minds, giving students the tools to think critically and become more open-minded global citizens..
    • A fulfilling experience: Teaching an African language is not only rewarding for your students but also for you, as you play a key role in cultivating an appreciation for the beauty and diversity of Africa.
    • Professional development: Gain teaching experience and a letter of recommendation to support future endeavors, whether in education or other professional fields.

Your time and expertise will help students see the world through a wider lens and encourage them to embrace the richness of Africa’s cultures. Together, we can create a lasting impact on their journey toward cross-cultural understanding and self-discovery.

    Requirements:

    • Proficiency in one of the African languages (Swahili, Zulu, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Khoisan, or Afrikaans)
    • A passion for promoting African languages and cultures

We invite those who are passionate about sharing African cultures and empowering the next generation of learners to apply.
