    Description

    Become a CASA Volunteer

Looking for a way to give back to your community? Why not volunteer to be a CASA! You can make a difference in a child’s life by volunteering only a few hours of your time each month. CASA of Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot Counties holds a special training every spring and fall for anyone interested in becoming a CASA volunteer. After filling out an application and submitting to a back ground check, 30 hours of training will need to be completed. There are no educational requirements, our program will train you in everything you need to know about advocating for a child! Once sworn in as a volunteer, you can be appointed to a case.

When you are appointed to a case you will act as an investigator to try and figure out the circumstances of the child's abuse or neglect and how we can prevent it from happening again. To do this, you will review records involving the child and family, interview the family and various other individuals, and interact with the child. One of the most important roles as a CASA is to spend time and form a relationship with the child. You will ask what the child wants throughout this difficult situation and be able to report this to the Judge through a written report. After you have collected all of this information, you attend court to let the Judge know your findings, what the child's wishes are, and what you believe is in the best interest of the child.
