    About Us

    Skills of LIfe Cafe empowers neurodiverse teens and young adults, including those with mild

    intellectual disabilities, through vocational training in a real-world café setting. Our mission is to

    build inclusive workforce pathways and skills for long-term success and independence.

    Role Summary

    The President of the Board of Directors provides leadership and strategic direction to the

    board and the organization. As a volunteer position, the President chairs board meetings,

    ensures effective governance, supports the Executive Director, and champions the mission and

    vision of the nonprofit.

    Key Responsibilities

    ● Lead and facilitate all Board of Directors meetings, ensuring productive and focused

    discussions

    ● Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to support organizational leadership and

    strategy

    ● Ensure the board fulfills its governance responsibilities including legal compliance,

    financial oversight, and policy development

    ● Lead board recruitment, orientation, and development efforts to maintain a strong and

    engaged board

    ● Represent the organization at public events, fundraisers, and community engagements

    as needed

    ● Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the organization’s mission

    ● Foster a positive, collaborative board culture that encourages participation and

    accountability

    ● Oversee annual board self-assessment and support ongoing board improvement

    ● Work with committees and advisory groups to align board activities with organizational

    goals

    Qualifications

    ● Passion for the mission of supporting neurodiverse youth and workforce inclusion

    ● Experience serving on nonprofit boards or in leadership roles preferred

    ● Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills

    ● Ability to inspire, motivate, and engage diverse board members

    ● Strategic thinker with good judgment and problem-solving skills

    ● Comfortable representing the organization publicly

    ● Commitment to ethical governance and transparency

    Time Commitment

    ● Approx. 3-6 hours/month (including board meetings, planning sessions, and events)

    ● Attendance at all regular board meetings and key events (virtual or in-person)

    ● Availability for consultation and communication with Executive Director and board

    members between meetings
