    Description

Board Member (Volunteer) – The Asylum Project

    About The Asylum Project:

The Asylum Project is a grassroots nonprofit working to relocate marginalized U.S. citizens—particularly LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and disabled individuals—who face life-threatening conditions in their home country. We focus on systemic change, refugee support, and building pathways to real safety when American systems fail to provide it.

    Position Overview:

We are actively seeking mission-driven individuals to serve on our Board of Directors. As a board member, you’ll provide strategic guidance, oversight, and support to our executive team as we build sustainable systems for sanctuary, advocacy, and community support. Voting and non-voting seats are available, along with open officer roles (Chair is already filled).

    Ideal Candidates May Bring:

    • Experience in nonprofit leadership or operations
    • Skills in finance, accounting, or budgeting
    • Background in law, immigration, or human rights
    • Knowledge of real estate (domestic or international)
    • Experience with fundraising, grant writing, or advocacy
    • Lived experience within marginalized communities (especially LGBTQ+, BIPOC, disabled)

We value professional expertise, but mission alignment is our top priority. If you are passionate about justice, equity, and creating safe exits for those in danger, we want to hear from you.

    Responsibilities Include:

    • Attending monthly Executive Team meetings and quarterly full Board meetings (remote)
    • Participating in board-level decision-making and strategic planning
    • Supporting fundraising, outreach, or governance as able
    • Promoting the mission of The Asylum Project in your professional and personal networks

    Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to help shape a bold and growing organization from the ground up. You’ll be part of a passionate team turning compassion into action—and building something that could mean the difference between survival and erasure for those most at risk.
