    LabReNew is a forward-thinking non-profit organization dedicated to empowering small laboratories (fewer than 100 employees and 5,000 sq ft) to achieve their sustainability goals. We offer customized guidance on energy efficiency, water conservation, waste management, and My Green Lab certification, aligning sustainability efforts with each lab's unique culture and values. By fostering collaboration with landlords, property managers, and architects, LabReNew ensures labs are equipped with green leases and retrofitted spaces that support environmental progress. Additionally, we connect labs to financial incentives, including grants, government programs, and energy savings opportunities, enabling them to reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining operational efficiency.     LabReNew's mission is to empower life science laboratories in their journey toward sustainability. We work closely with lab management and research staff to set clear goals. LabReNew provides guidance and resources needed for sustainable research practices. We help labs focus on waste reduction by promoting circular economy principles. Our work encourages alignment with broader climate policies and fosters a culture of environmental responsibility in scientific research.

    LabReNew carries out its mandatethrough four pillars:

    1. By providing free sustainability consulting to small, under-resourced labs;
    2. By fostering and connecting labs to a broader community of sustainability vendors, suppliers, like minded labs and other stakeholders; and
    3. Social enterprises & Businesses, Generalpublic & High Net WorthIndividuals, engaging philanthropic local businesses and individuals through donations and sponsorships;
    4. Speaking Opportunities, where Founder Steve Miller promotes Low Cost/ No Cost sustainability solutions encouraging the scientific community to adopt this mindset.

    THE JOB DETAILS

    Brief Overview

    At LabReNew, our volunteer Board of Directors reflects the diverse community we serve and is integral to advancing our mission of sustainability in the scientific community. The Board oversees the organization’s day-to-day operations, fundraising, communications, and marketing efforts. Directors collaborate closely with fellow board members to implement strategic plans and fulfill our commitment to sustainable practices. We believe that fostering an inclusive and diverse environment is essential to achieving true sustainability. By embracing varied perspectives and experiences, we enhance our ability to drive meaningful change and support laboratories in their journey toward sustainable research practices.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    The Director of Fundraising & Sustainability will play a pivotal role inoverseeing the operations, strategy, and performance of LabReNew in relation to fundraising and long-term sustainability. This position requires a high level of strategic thinking, relationship-building, and leadership to help drive the charity’s fundraising initiatives, ensure long-term financial stability, and cultivate new opportunities for growth. As a director, the role focuses on guiding the fundraising efforts of the charity, using your network to open new doors, and working with the Board to implement effective fundraising and sustainability strategies.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Oversee the strategic direction and execution of fundraising efforts,ensuring alignment with LabReNew’s mission and goals.
    • Establish and nurture key partnerships, including with corporate sponsors, donors, and otherstakeholders, to drive fundraising success.
    • Work closely with the fundraising team to identifynew streams of revenue, including grants, donations, and public fundraising events.
    • Provide high-level oversight of sustainability initiatives, ensuring long-term financial stability through innovative fundraising strategies.
    • Collaborate with other board members to ensure that fundraising and sustainability effortsare integrated into the charity’s overall strategic plan.
    • Support the vision and mission of LabReNew by actively participating in promoting its goals and objectives.
    • Serve as a good steward of the charity’sfinances, helping the board fulfillits fiduciary responsibilities and ensuring financial health.
    • Actively participate in the recruitment processfor key officers, including the CEO, and oversee their performance in line with bylaws and regulations.

    Key Tasks:

    • Lead strategic planning and execution of the charity’s fundraising strategy, ensuringalignment with organizational goals.
    • Utilize personal and professional networks to establishpartnerships, secure sponsorships, and open doors for revenue growth.
    • Oversee the research, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors,grants, and corporate sponsorships.
    • Ensure effective communication and engagement strategies to build communitysupport and increase visibility of LabReNew.
    • Provide strategic oversight to the fundraising team and supportstaff to meet revenue and sustainability targets.
    • Commit to attending 4-6 board meetings per year (virtually or in-person) and actively participate in the decision-making process.
    • Abide by conflict-of-interest guidelines, ensuring transparency and fairness in all boardand operational activities.
    • Commit to a 3-year term on the board, renewable upon expiry, with attendance at a minimumof 4 board meetings and one Annual General Meeting each year.
    • Help govern the charity’s affairs on behalfof its members in accordance with applicable bylaws, rules, and regulations.

    Other Key Responsibilities Include:

    • Promote and upholdthe values of LabReNew in all activities and partnerships.
    • Support and contribute to the charity’s overall vision, sustainability, and strategic growth.
