    Description

    Adult Education (GED) Tutor
MY TURN, Inc. (a non-profit organization) seeks self-motivated and compassionate volunteers to assist adult education students. Candidates from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, however, there is a strong need for math and English language tutors. We also request that you help our employees keep the classroom clean and organized.
    Volunteer candidates should:
    • Submit a resume. (A short work history should not discourage your application.)
    • Complete a criminal background check. (Paid for by MY TURN. Not all records are disqualifying. Results are kept confidential.)
    • Be able to commit to volunteer several hours per week for a least a period equivalent to at least one semester. (We are also open during the summer term.)
    • Communicate with the Volunteer Coordinator about scheduling needs.
    • Meet students at the MY TURN office or another public place with prior arrangement and agree to never meet at private residences.
    • Keep attendance records and report these regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator.
    • Maintain a professional relationship with students.
    • Communicate concerns to the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible.
There is the possibility to combine more than one position.
    TUTOR:
    Duties will include:
    • Working with individual or small groups of students and supporting their use of online learning platforms.
    • Regular maintenance in an office/classroom environment, including wiping down tables and organizing bookshelves.
    • Building and maintaining rapport with students, which may include reaching out to students via telephone.
    • With supervision and prior arrangement, students may conduct some lessons.
    • Meeting times can vary and be arranged. There are options to meet with students off site, however, these must be documents and always be in a public place, such as a public library, coffee shop, or restaurant. Volunteers are never permitted to meet in private residences under any circumstances.
    • Commit to keeping student information confidential in compliance with state and federal laws.
    • Light classroom cleaning (shared with all MY TURN employees). This does not include restrooms or common areas in the building.
Start/end dates of internship will normally coincide with the university calendar and last one semester.
    Internship option for college/university students:
The Interns will complete the tasks of a tutor with additional opportunities in other areas.
We are currently approved by NH Dept. of Labor to host an intern and will make all reasonable attempts to support interns in completing projects for academic course credit.
Students are responsible to make all necessary arrangements with their institution to participate in a credit-bearing internship. MY TURN will make all reasonable efforts to assist students in meeting internship requirements.
At the moment MY TURN instructors hold New Hampshire teacher and/or principal certifications.
