    Description

    Educational Volunteer

    Educational Volunteers at the Time and the Valleys Museum will design curriculum for a new 1930s Lost Catskill Farm educational program geared for k through 12 students. They will also gain experience by directly teaching students k through12 the existing programs currently available and marketed to over 200 schools throughout the Tri-State area and working with and learning from experienced staff and retired teachers.

    SKILLS GAINED:

    • Experience creating curriculum for k – 12 students.
    • Enhanced history and STEM teaching skills gained through training and collaboration with retired teacher volunteers.
    • Teaching experience working directly with k – 12 students.
    • Interpersonal skills reinforced by a highly collaborative working environment.
    • A deepening of content expertise as it pertains to the educational programs.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Research and development of new k – 12 educational programs to include history of farming, depression, life in the 1930s, science and math to include water wheel operation, electricity and electric plant operation, global water problems and watershed protection.
    • Teach existing educational programs to visiting k through 12 schools.
    • Participate in brainstorming, planning and designing sessions with the education committee.
    • Conduct audience evaluations, identify opportunities to improve existing programs and make changes to existing programs.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Interest in Time and the Valleys Museum mission of connecting water, people and the Catskills.
    • Interest in local history and Museums.
    • Good oral and written communication skills.
    • Reliable, punctual and good attendance.
    • Positive attitude
    • Ability to work well with others AND independently.
    • Must be 18 years or older.
