    Description

    Food Equity Volunteer

Bread Across Borders started in Spring 2020 with the Covid lock down, to deliver fresh food to the "usually forgotten" communities in the Charlottesville area.

We pick up food that is donated by local markets, bakeries, farms, and the farmers' market, and sort the food into boxes which are then delivered to families. The recipients of the boxes redistribute items within their own communities.

In the U.S. around 40 percent of food is wasted while people go hungry. Last year alone, Bread Across Borders delivered 20 tons of food and saved it from the landfill. Our work has an environmental impact as well.

    BAB Mission :

Breaking down Barriers and Building bridges between different communities by sharing food

We meet on Sundays, rain or shine,at 11:30am and sort food until we are finished, usually around 1 pm. You are welcome to come for all or part of this time. After sorting we deliver the boxes to families, and you are also welcome to help us deliver.
