    Description

    About the Role

Creshendo is seeking a visual artist or illustrator to help bring our research publications to life through striking, human-centered illustrations. This role supports our Research & Analysis Team by creating original artwork to accompany longform essays and articles on refugee and migrant justice issues. Given the sensitivity of the stories we work with, this role does not involve using real photos of individuals—rather, you’ll help us visually express these topics in creative, respectful, and emotionally resonant ways.

If you’re a digital illustrator, designer, or creative familiar with AI-assisted tools and can thoughtfully guide their use, even better. We welcome artists of all backgrounds who can visually interpret heavy, complex topics into accessible and ethically grounded content for our Substack and beyond.

    What You’ll Do

    • Create illustrations for longform research and editorial pieces
    • Collaborate with our researchers to translate complex topics into visual metaphors or scenes
    • Design graphics that are evocative, respectful, and help drive engagement on platforms like Substack and Instagram
    • Contribute to the visual identity of Creshendo’s research voice
    • (Optional) Use AI-assisted illustration tools if familiar, while maintaining authorship and ethical integrity
    • Ensure no real identities or likenesses are used without consent

    What We’re Looking For

    • Strong illustration or digital art portfolio (any style welcome—line art, editorial, surreal, etc.)
    • Sensitivity and care when representing migration, displacement, trauma, and human rights issues
    • Willingness to brainstorm creative, symbolic, or abstract ways to depict heavy topics
    • Ability to communicate and collaborate with non-designers (researchers, writers, etc.)
    • Familiarity with AI image tools (optional)
    • Passion for ethical storytelling and supporting refugee-centered narratives

    Time Commitment & Benefits

    • 3–6 hours per week (flexible)
    • Fully remote
    • Creative freedom within a values-driven editorial framework
    • Art featured in published research, newsletters, and social media with full credit
    • Collaborate with a passionate global team and contribute to work that informs public understanding

How This Role Contributes to Creshendo’s Mission

Our research helps challenge harmful narratives and advocate for justice—but visual storytelling plays a key role in drawing people in. Your artwork will make complex topics more accessible, emotional, and impactful—helping us reach wider audiences and create lasting change.
