    Description

    Development & Grantwriting Lead (Volunteer-to-Paid)

    Title:

    Development & Grantwriting Lead(s) (Volunteer-to-Paid)

    Location:

Remote (U.S.-based preferred, global applicants welcome. Ideally, we will have one Lead focused on U.S. opportunities and another focused on non-US international grants and fundraising.

    Organization:

The Promontory Academy (fiscally sponsored by IFERS, a registered 501(c)(3))

    About Us:

The Promontory Academy is an online, self-paced school for globally curious students in grades 3–12. Our curriculum is built for learners who crave deeper purpose, real-world relevance, and a future-forward education that equips them to lead, not follow.

We deliver rigorous interdisciplinary learning rooted in systems thinking, sustainability, and personal mastery. Students explore topics like climate resilience, equity, and innovation while earning meaningful certifications through our Global Brain Trust (GBT) framework.

We're not replicating traditional school online. We're redesigning it from the ground up for the world that's coming next.

    The Role:

We are seeking a mission-aligned, proactive Development & Grantwriting Lead to help secure the funding that will carry The Promontory Academy into its next chapter.

This is a volunteer role to start, with the clear potential to become a paid part-time position as grants are won and fundraising goals are met. You’ll work directly with our founder and leverage our fiscal sponsorship through IFERS to pursue both private grants and philanthropic donations.

    Responsibilities:

    • Research and identify aligned grant opportunities (education, sustainability, innovation, equity, etc.), both in the US and abroad.
    • Write and submit compelling LOIs, proposals, and reports
    • Develop and help run small-scale fundraising campaigns (email, social, crowdfunding)
    • Assist in developing a lightweight CRM or tracking system for funders and donors
    • Help shape fundraising language and storytelling with a high-trust, high-integrity tone
    • (Optional) Recruit additional volunteers or partners as growth allows

    What We're Looking For:

    • Strong grant writing and persuasive communication skills
    • Passion for transforming education and supporting mission-driven work
    • Organized, self-directed, and deadline aware
    • Familiarity with small org fundraising, grassroots development, or early-stage nonprofits
    • Optional: experience with CRMs, donor outreach, or nonprofit development

    Our Mission:

Our mission is to ignite globally conscious, systems-thinking changemakers by delivering a rigorous, interdisciplinary online education rooted in real-world complexity, creative inquiry, and academic excellence. We challenge students to explore the world’s toughest problems: climate resilience, equity, innovation, and sustainability — while building the knowledge, courage, and character to solve them.

We don’t teach to the middle. We teach to the future.

    Compensation Path:

This role begins as a volunteer position. As funding grows, our goal is to convert this to a paid part-time role and, eventually, expand your responsibilities and compensation based on success and available grants. We anticipate global engagement, to include not just our online learning environment but - in the future - brick and mortar campuses in under-served areas.
