The Welcome Project fulfills the mission of Neighbor to Neighbor by facilitating friendships and providing education for both newcomer immigrants and local community members.
Through this program, Neighbor to Neighbor trains volunteer Welcome Teams to be paired with immigrant newcomer households in St. Joseph County. Not only do volunteers practice welcoming newcomers by assisting with everyday needs such as transportation assistance, education, employment assistance, and meal sharing, but newcomers also welcome volunteers into their own homes and lives. This mutual act of welcome empowers newcomers and cultivates empathy in the South Bend community.
Most volunteer work will be done in newcomer homes or in city locations such as parks, grocery stores, or doctor's offices.
Please fill out our Volunteer Application, which includes a questionnaire and waivers. If you do not have a car, you can answer "N/A" to all of the driving agreement questions.
