    Human Resources (HR) Advisor - Board of Advisors (Nonprofit) 

    Position: Volunteer

    Commitment: Estimated 2-6 hours/month

    Reports to: Executive Director / Board Chair

    About Us

    Skills of LIfe Cafe empowers neurodiverse teens and young adults, including those with mild

    intellectual disabilities, through vocational training in a real-world café setting. Our mission is to

    build inclusive workforce pathways and skills for long-term success and independence.

    Role Summary

    We are seeking a knowledgeable HR Advisor to serve on our Board of Advisors. This

    non-voting, strategic role will guide our organization on best practices in hiring, workforce

    policies, staff development, and inclusive employment practices-especially relevant to our

    mission-driven vocational training environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    ● Advise on HR policies, compliance, and employment practices (particularly as we grow)

    ● Review or help develop staff/volunteer handbooks and onboarding processes

    ● Provide guidance on hiring practices, job descriptions, and performance management

    ● Support inclusive employment strategies and workplace accommodations

    ● Advise on workplace culture, team dynamics, and conflict resolution (if needed)

    ● Serve as a confidential sounding board for staff-related challenges

    ● (Optional) Assist in training or coaching related to staff development

    Qualifications

    ● Background in human resources, organizational development, employment law, or

    nonprofit HR

    ● Knowledge of inclusive workplace practices, accommodations, or disability employment

    support

    ● Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

    ● Familiarity with small nonprofit operations preferred

    ● Passion for empowering diverse communities and youth development

    Time Commitment

    ● Approx. 2-6 hours/month (flexible, as needed)

    ● Attend 1-2 advisor meetings annually (virtual or in-person)

    ● Available for occasional consultation by phone or email
