Dance Teacher Position Description for your program running from August 10 – June 30:
Paid Position: Dance Teacher
Location: Sapphire Youth Development Center
Schedule: Weekly Classes | August 10 – June 30
Age Group: Elementary to Middle School (exact ages vary by class)
Position Overview:
Do you love to dance and enjoy inspiring young minds? We are seeking a passionate and creative Dance Teacher Volunteer to lead weekly dance classes for youth as part of our performing arts program. This is a meaningful opportunity to share your talent and help students grow in confidence, discipline, and joy through movement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and teach weekly dance classes (ballet, hip-hop, jazz, or creative movement — based on your expertise)
- Create a positive, supportive, and structured learning environment
- Prepare students for seasonal showcases and our annual youth production
- Encourage teamwork, creativity, and self-expression
- Collaborate with staff and other volunteers to ensure a smooth class flow and transitions
- Provide feedback and encouragement to help each dancer develop their skills
Qualifications:
- Dance experience required (performance and/or teaching)
- Experience working with children preferred
- Ability to lead and motivate a group with energy and patience
- Reliable, flexible, and committed to the full school-year term (or communicate availability in advance)
- Must be 17+ and pass a background check
Class Details & Time Commitment:
- Classes are held once or twice a week (typically on Saturdays or weekday evenings)
- August 10 – June 30 (aligned with the school year)
- Participation in at least one rehearsal or performance per semester is expected
